#The Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #
————————————————————————

Today 20th August 2025 is the forty-first Remembrance anniversary of music director Avinash Vyas ((21 July 1912 – 20 August 1984). On this occasion I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Dashaavataar-1951’ where Avinash Vyas was the music director.

After getting associated with this blog I had got many opportunities to listen to and share the songs composed by Avinash Vyas ji. Though I was not aware of his great contribution towards Hindi Cinema and Gujarati Cinema and Non-Film music in Gujarati. In my childhood I must have watched many black & white Hindi movies where music was composed by Avinash Vyas, but I was unaware of this fact. However, the song ‘tere dwaar khadaa bhagwaan’ from ‘Waaman Avtaar-1955’ is my all-time favourite and I would also like to mention the songs from ‘Chakradhaari-1954’ which I watched during my stay at Nagpur (exactly nine years back around this time i.e. 15/16 August 2016) where I liked all the wonderful songs this movie has.

I had earlier shared on this blog a link of an article about Avinash Vyas written by A.M. Vaishnav jee on ‘songs of yore’, and there I found comments by our Arun ji giving a brief about Avinash Vyas ji which I am reproducing below;

His full name was AVINASH ANANDRAI VYAS. His wife Sulochana Vyas was a singer and son Gaurang was/is a Music Director. He was a multifaceted personality. He was a composer, lyricist, playback singer and writer too. In fact, he has written 75 Dance Ballets, in few of which Asha Parekh has also danced. he published 6 books in Guajarati, the last being” Vartul”-1983. He gave music to 53 Hindi and 175 Guajarati films and 1 Rajasthani film. He got Gujarat Govt. awards 10 times. The Sangeet Natak Academy of Gujarat gave him an award. He was given Padmashree in 1970. He made 8 foreign stage shows. he had acted in a Guajarati film,” Gorakhdhanda”-1949. His most famous film ‘Har Har Mahadev-1950’ is also my favourite one. Though neglected in Hindi, he was honoured suitably in Gujarat, in his life time.

Today’s movie “Dashaavtaar-1951” was directed by Jayant Desai for ‘J.K. Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Kikubhai Desai. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 14.08.1951. The cast of this movie had Nirupa Roy, Trilok Kapoor, Niranjan Sharma, Umakant, Vasantrao Pahalwan, Praveen Kumar, Baby Tabassum, Murad, Master Dhulia, Revashankar, Satya Narayan, Chandabai, Charubala, Neerja, Nagolkar, Pt Iqbal, and others. Actor Jeevan had made a guest appearance in this movie.

“Dashaavtaar-1951” has twelve songs in it. The lyricists for the songs in this film are Saraswati Kumar ‘Deepak’ (five songs), B.P. Bhargav (five songs) and Munshi Sagar Hussain (two songs). The singers for this movie are Geeta Dutt, Mohd Rafi, Sulochana Kadam, Asha Bhonsle, Badrinath Vyas, and A.R. Ojha. Geet Kosh mentions in its foot note for this movie-page that one song ‘o mere maalik, bolo kab aake mujhe bachaaoge…’ was later removed from the film. This song has already been covered on this blog. So far eight songs from this movie have already been posted on the blog. Today I am presenting the ninth song from this movie. Today’s song is a playful song and I guess it is picturised on children in the movie. Sulochana Kadam is the singer, accompanied by chorus. Saraswati Kumar Deepak is the lyricist and music is composed by Avinash Vyas.

Paying our tributes to the music director Avinash Vyas today, let us now listen to this song …
