Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 46

Today’s rare song is “Hosh Mein Tum Bhi Nahi” sung by Asha Bhosle from “Mangu Dada” (1970). The song is composed by C Arjun and penned by S H Bihari.

The movie is directed by Maruti for producer S M Khera. Star cast was Sheikh Mukhtar, Shakeela Bano Bhopali, Sujit Kumar, K.N. Singh, Hiralal, Maruti, Bhagwan, Faryal, Purnima, Zeb Rehman, Shyam Kumar, etc.

The story of the movie is:

Mangu Dada (Sheikh Mukhtar) is a dreaded underworld don whose very name strikes fear in society. A product of crime and poverty, he has grown up believing in violence and force as the only way to survive. His gang dominates the city, and he is regarded as a ruthless figure with no mercy.

But beneath the rough exterior, Mangu Dada carries a wounded past. His early life of deprivation and betrayal has hardened him, yet somewhere inside, he longs for acceptance and respect.

The turning point in his life comes when he encounters a young woman (played by Jayshree), who shows him compassion and tries to bring out his human side. She makes him realize that he has wasted his life in crime and that redemption is still possible.

However, Mangu’s attempt to reform clashes with the interests of other gangsters and the police. The rival gangs see him as a threat, while the law does not believe in his transformation. Madan Puri plays one of the main antagonists who pushes him back into conflict.

Caught between his past and his desire for a new beginning, Mangu Dada fights one last battle — against both his enemies and his inner demons. The film builds up to an emotional climax where Mangu’s fate is sealed, leaving the audience to reflect on the tragic cycle of crime, poverty, and redemption.

This film belongs to the late 1960s–early 70s trend of crime-syndicate dramas that mixed action with social commentary. Sheikh Mukhtar, with his towering presence, was central to the role, giving Mangu Dada a blend of menace and pathos.

Two songs from this movie are already covered in the blog. Here’s the third one.

Song-Hosh mein tum bhee naheen (Mangu Dada)(1970) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-S H Bihari, MD-C Arjun

Lyrics:

hosh mein
tum bhee naheen
hosh mein
hum bhee naheen
rang laayenge donon kee behoshiyaan
hosh mein
tum bhee naheen
hosh mein
hum bhee naheen
rang laayenge donon kee behoshiyaan
is jagah apne siva
doosra koi naheen
bekhudee le chalee
humko na jaane kahaan
hosh mein tum bhee naheen

aaj kee
raat se
humko ummeed hai
jo bhee chaahenge hum
woh bhee ho jaayega
raat hai
apnee magar
baat hai uljhee hui
door hone hee waalee hai bechainiyaan
hosh mein
tum bhee naheen

zindagee
maut se
kheltee hai jahaan
ae mere dil teree
manzilein hain wahaan
saans hai
ukhdee huyi
paanv hain jakde huye
phir bhee chhaayee hai
chaaron taraf mastiyaan
hosh mein tum bhee naheen

pee magar
is kadar
ke nasha bhee na ho
is mulaakaat ka
phir koi gham na ho
zulf ke
saaye taley
jhoomte
saaghar chale
mahfilen aaj kee
aur bhee hon jawaan
hosh mein
tum bhee naheen
hosh mein
hum bhee naheen
rang laayenge donon kee behoshiyaan
hosh mein
tum bhee naheen
