Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 48
1973 had been the year in which many silver/golden jubilee films were released. Some of the major blockbusters were Bobby, Jugnu, Daag, Zanjeer, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Kahani Kismat Ki, Loafer, etc etc.
Dharmendra had 9 releases, whereas Rajesh Khanna had 3 releases, Big B had 3 releases.
And I was in my 7th standard. In this year I started bunking classes regularly to watch a new release and some old movies on repeat runs every week. For me 1973 holds some strong nostalgic memories which makes me happy and sad in that singular moment.
So here’s a rare song from a film released in early 1973. The song, “Kash Pe Kash Lagane De” from Naya Nasha (1973), is sung by Asha Bhosle, written by Anand Bakshi and composed by Sapan Chakraborty.
“Naya Nasha” was directed by Hari Dutt and produced by C.V.K. Shastry. It starred Nanda, Ranjit Mallick, Madan Puri, etc
“Naya Nasha” is a social drama from the early 1970s that highlights the growing problem of drug addiction among urban youth. The movie takes a critical look at how impressionable young people are lured into substance abuse, the devastating consequences it has on their lives and families, and how society at large struggles to deal with this menace.
The film revolves around Seema (played by Nanda), a compassionate and educated woman deeply concerned about the moral decline and increasing drug abuse among the younger generation. She sees how easily college students are being trapped into the world of intoxication, which destroys not just their future but also breaks families.
Seema encounters a group of students, led by the idealistic Amar (Ranjit Mallick), who initially take to drugs under peer pressure and the lure of a “modern, liberated lifestyle.” Amar is bright and talented but becomes addicted, drifting away from his studies and family responsibilities.
Behind the growing drug culture is a mafia-like network, led by powerful men (played by actors like Madan Puri and Rehman), who profit from this “naya nasha.” They exploit vulnerable youth, keeping them dependent while raking in wealth.
Seema, moved by the plight of several young people – including Amar – decides to campaign against this menace. She organizes awareness drives, tries to counsel students, and exposes the hypocrisy of those who preach morality but secretly support the drug racket for financial gains.
The story then follows Amar’s struggle with addiction: his fall from grace, the breakdown of his family’s trust, and his near destruction. With Seema’s guidance and determination, Amar begins to fight back. However, the mafia does not let go easily, leading to clashes, sacrifices, and tense confrontations.
Ultimately, the film delivers a social message: that “naya nasha” (new intoxication) is not freedom but slavery, and only education, awareness, and moral strength can rescue the youth and safeguard the nation’s future.
The song is picturised on Nanda who lip syncs it. She is shown at a party of young men and women, who are getting intoxicated with drugs (charas).
