“Badnaam Farishtey” (1971) is a Hindi-language court drama film that centers on a group of unemployed and struggling young people.
The film’s plot revolves around a group of 12 young men and one woman who, after graduating from college with degrees and diplomas, find themselves unable to find work. They arrive in Mumbai with high hopes but are met with indifference from society. Desperate to earn money, they fall into the trap of a local gangster. They are forced to participate in various illegal activities to make a living.
However, not being hardened criminals, the group soon realizes the error of their ways. They decide to abandon their criminal lives and try to find honest work, embracing the “dignity of labor.” They take on various odd jobs, like selling vegetables.
The gangster, determined to maintain his control, exposes their past to the police, leading to their arrest. The film’s climax is a courtroom drama where the young people are put on trial. Their case is taken up by two lawyers, who are played by Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in extended guest appearances. The lawyers argue on behalf of the young, unemployed people, highlighting the societal pressures and lack of opportunities that led them to crime.
The film’s message is that academic education alone is not enough and that young people should also consider technical or vocational fields and respect the “dignity of labor.” It preaches against the lure of easy money and a life of luxury through shortcuts. The judge, after a lengthy deliberation, delivers a verdict that is favorable to the young people.
The film is notable for its cast, which included many newcomers and struggling artists of the time. The introduction to the film was done by Dharmendra.
“Nashili Aankhon Se Na Barsa” is sung by Asha Bhosle, written by Asad Bhopali and composed by N Dutta.

Song-Nasheelee aankhon se na barsa itna ras (Badnaam Farishtey (1971) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Asad Bhopali, MD-N Datta
Lyrics:
nasheelee aankhon se
nasheelee aankhon se
na barsa itna ras
ke doob gayee mastee mein
meree nas nas
arre bas
arre bas arre bas
ho
nasheelee aankhon se hmm
dil kee beqaraariyaan
badan ka loch ban gayee
dil kee beqarariyaan
badan ka loch ban gayee
ab mujhe sambhalna ki
ab main hosh mein nahi
sangdil
maan ja
ab to zid na kar
nasheelee aankhon se
na barsa itna ras
ke doob gayee mastee mein
meree nas nas
arre bas bas arre bas bas
arre bas bas bas bas
hmm
nasheelee aankhon se hey
yeh sharaab ab mujhe
pila na mere meharbaan
yeh sharab ab mujhe
pila na mere meharbaan
jo nasha teree nazar mein hai
woh jaam mein kahaan
sangdil
maan ja
ab to zid na kar
nasheelee aankhon se
na barsa itna ras
ke doob gayee mastee mein
meree nas nas
arre bas arre bas
arre bas
ho
nasheelee aankhon se hey
dekh mera ang ang tootne laga sanam
dekh mera ang ang tootne laga sanam
ab mujhe na chhed
tujhko mere pyaaar kee qasam
sangdil
maan ja
ab to zid na kar
nasheelee aankhon se
na barsa itna ras
ke doob gayee mastee mein
meree nas nas
arre bas
arre bas
arre bas bas bas
