(Asha Bhonsle’s 92nd birthday 8th September 2025)

Today 8th September 2025 is 92nd birthday of of legendary singer Asha Bhonsle (born on 08.09.1933). On this occasion we are presenting songs sung by her. In this post I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Shankar Seeta Anusuya-1965’. I don’t remember if I have watched this movie, but most probably I have not watched it yet.

This movie is available on internet and I might be watching it in future. This movie “Shankar Sita Ansuya-1965” was directed by Manibhai Vyas for Madhur Films. It was produced by Kantibhai Parekh and B.C. Madhur, and it was passed by Censor Board on 27.10.1965.

The cast of ‘Shankar Sita Ansuya-1965’ included Nirupa Roy, Mahipal, Anita Guha (as Sita), Sulochana, Shahu Modak, Manhar Desai, Helen and Madhumati. They were supported by Niranjan Sharma, Shekhar Purohit, Chandrakant Sangani, Prakash-Devkumar (as Lav-Kush), with Aruna Irani, Radheshyam, Lalita Desai, Sham Kumar, Sarita Khatav, Champakala, Varsha, Jirabhai, Kavita, Deepak, Shamim, Devchand, Rajani, Hindustani, Shobha, Rameshkant, Sunanda, Prakash Mishra, Shri Ramshastri, Madan Chopra, Ghulam Sabir, Kanhaiyalal Purohit, Ajit Soni, R.S. Dube, Sham Sunder, Narendra, Master Ratan, Rajesh and others. Story & Dialogues of this movie was written by Pt Madhur. And Screenplay was written by Vishwanath Pande. Editing of this movie was done by Kamlakar. Asha Bhonsle, Kamal Barot, Mohd Rafi and Kavi Pradeep were the singers for this movie. Kavi Pradeep was the lyricist for this movie and he wrote all the seven songs in this movie. Music was composed by Shivramkrishna.

Our inhouse encylopeadia Shree Arunkumar jee had mentioned in brief about the story of this movie while commenting on the well-known song ‘hamne jag ki ajab tasveer dekhi’ posted by Atul jee long back on the blog on 25.03.2012. I am reproducing the text below from Arun jee’s comment here to give a brief idea about this movie.

“SHANKAR SITA ANUSUYA-1965 is a mix up of stories from Shiv Puraan and Ramayana. The cast included Nirupa Roy as Devi Narmada, Mahipal as Sri Ram, Anita Guha as Sita, Sulochana as Sati Anusuya, Manhar Desai as Vishnu and many other regulars in various roles. Sati Anusuya had become very well known for her celestial powers and her strength as a Sati maata. Uma once asked Shankar if it was true and coaxed him to test her. Accordingly, Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh went to her ashram in the guise of yogis. Anusuya treated them with due respect but when they expressed a desire for her itself, in a rage she changed them into infants. The respective wives of these Gods, namely, Laxmi, Bhamini and Uma came to look for them and begged mercy to Anusuya who changed them back to original forms.

Uma went away with Shankar. After few days when Shankar Parvati were going through airways to Kailas, they saw Ram in Panchwati searching for Sita who was abducted by Ravana. Shankar tells Uma that Ram is Vishnu Avtar, but she does not believe him and changes herself as Sita and meets Ram. Vishnu ji recognises Umaji and calls her ‘Hey Mata ji’. Uma is convinced, but Shankar is angry on her. The story has many subplots. The film further depicts Ram Ravan Yudh, Seeta Agni Parikshaa, and Return to Ayodhya, Sending Sita away and finally Sita taken by Bhoomi after Ashwamedh Yadnya etc. It’s almost Ramayan in the second Half.”(Edited)

Two songs from this movie ‘Shankar Sita Ansuya’ has been posted on the blog. Today I am presenting the third song from this movie which is in the voice of Asha Bhonsle who is celebrating her 93rd Birthday today.

Today’s song is the first song ofthis movie to appear on screen. The movie begins with Sati Ansuya (Sulochana) and her husband Atri (unidentified actor) performing a yagya to pray to Varun dev to request him to bring rains as the people around are suffering due to drought and scarcity of water. Sati Ansuya also prays to Agni dev to accept her aahuti which he does and gives blessings. Soon Varun dev provides rains to the affected area and all are happy. One day while in vanvaas Lord Ram with Lakshman and Sita are passing by Sati Ansuya’s aashram. Lord Ram tells Seeta about Sati Ansuya’s ‘pativrataa dharm’ and how her powers bring prosperity (rains to the drought affected area) to the people and the area around. Maata Sita expresses her wish to meet Sati Ansuya. When they reach the aashram of Ansuya, she is there performing aartee of her husband Sage Atri…

“माता मुझे ऐसा उपदेश दीजिये जिससे मेरा नारी जीवन सुखी हो जाये” Sita to Ansuya

“जनक नंदिनी तुम्हें उपदेश देना सूर्य को दीपक दिखाना है, परंतु तुम्हारी इच्छा का स्वागत करना मेरा कर्तव्य है’, ‘मैंने जिस मंत्र की साधना की है उसे ध्यान से सुनो “ …

Sati Ansuya (Sulochana) sings this song (Sulochana lip singing for Asha Bhonsle’s voice), and we have Sita (Anita Guha), Ram (Mahipal), Lakshman and Sage Atri and other disciples in the aashram (whom all I am unable to identify) listening to this mantra. Lyrics of the song gets the message across in a simple and effective manner.

The song, penned by Kavi Pradeep and composed by Shivramkrishna is sung by Asha Bhonsle.

Wishing her a very happy birthday today, and a healthy and peaceful life ahead, let us listen to this song now …

dekh pati kee aankhon se tu
bol pati kee bolee ee
dekh pati kee aankhon se tu
bol pati kee bolee ee
ant samay pati ke kandhon par r r
nikley teree dolee
pativrataa ke liye khuley hain
sadaa swarg ke dwaar
teraa ho jaayegaa bedaa paar
tu preetam se kar le pyaar

isee pyaar mein tujhe milenge
