Today’s song is from the movie ‘Shree Ram Bharat Milan-1965’. This mythological movie was directed by Manibhai Vyas for R.M. Art Productions, Bombay. It was produced by Ratan and Mohan and presented by Pt Madhur and S.P. Mangal.

The cast of this movie had Prithviraj, Mahipal, Nirupa Roy, Anita Guha, Sulochana, Rajkumar, Saraswati, Balakram, Bhuvna, B.M. Vyas, Sunanda, Niranjan Sharma, Padma Rani, Arvind, Vanmala, Joirabhai, Anand Tiwari, C.N. Kapoor, Shekhar Purohit and others. The names of Madhumati, Sheela R., Aruna, and Bela Bose are included in the titles as ‘dancers’. (The video of the movie available on internet is not clear). Story of this movie was written by Pt Narottam Vyas, and screenplay was written by Vishwanath Pande. Pt Madhur and C.K. Mast wrote the dialogues of this movie. Editing of this movie was done by P.S. Wagle.

While presenting the first song from this movie ‘mat jaao mat jaao mat jaao Raam jee’ on 06.02.2018 on this blog our dear Sudhir jee had mentioned the following about the background of two films on the same story from Ramayana released during the year 1965.

Time was 1960s, and religious films still had a popular following. And the producers’ community also had an ongoing interest, to continue making films based on our scriptures and ancient history, ensuring that these stories do not fade away from public memory. Their objective was also to ensure that the teachings of the epic stories associated with religion, continue to be passed on to the newer generations. It was a matter of personal and collective responsibility that the film makers and other artists would continue to get together and make such films. Sadly, in the recent decades, this awareness and this responsibility has become a thing of the past.
In 1965, two films were released narrating the story of brotherly love between Sri Ram and Sri Bharat. The other film is titled ‘Bharat Milaap’.

I guess that both these movies cover the episodes of from the ‘vanvaas’ period of Shree Raam, Lakshman and Seetaa Maiyyaa. I have watched the movie under discussion in parts as it is available on internet. This movie covers the story of Ramayana starting from ‘Seeta Swayamwar’, ‘Kaikeyi’s seeking the throne for her son Bharat, and ‘vanvaas’ to Shree Raam in lieu of the ‘two’ boons that Raja Dashrath had promised her earlier, ‘Bharat’s not accepting the throne and instead carrying Raam’s ‘paadukaa’ and worshipping it, and finally Raja Raam’s coming back to Ayodhya after fourteen years of ‘vanvaas’.

This movie has six songs written by Kavi Pradeep and they were composed by Pandit Shivram. The singers for this movie are Asha Bhonsle, Kamal Barot, Mohd Rafi, and Usha Mangeshkar.

This song takes place when, after successfully fulfilling the ‘condition’ of Seeta Swayamwar, Shree Raam gets married to Seeta and brings her to him home. After arriving at the palace Raja Dashrath asks his queens to greet all the four brides and take them to ‘Kulguru’ for the ‘blessings’ of their ‘kul-devtaa’ that is ‘surya-devtaa’.

In this song women are celebrating and welcoming Seeta and other new brides to the ‘Raghu-kul’.

This song has alankaarik verses by Kavi Pradeep and the music by Shivram is mesmerising. Listening to this song gives is a pleasurable experience for the senses.

Geet Kosh and other sources mention the singer’s name for this song as Asha Bhonsle and Kamal Barot only. However, it also has the voice of Rafi Saab in it. Sulochana, Nirupa Roy, Anita Guha, Madhumati and many others are seen in the picturisation of the song.

Let us now listen to this wonderful song …
