(Tribute to lyricist Anjaan on his birth anniversary)
“Swaami Daadaa” or “Swami Dada-1982” was directed by Dev Anand for his home productions Navketan Films, Bombay. Dev Anand was also the producer of this movie. It had Dev Anand in the title role of ‘Swami Dada’, Mithun Chakravarty, Padmini Kolhapure, Rati Agnihotri, Shakti Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, A.K. Hangal, Bharat Kapoor, Urmila Bhatt, Sushma Seth, Neelima, Beena, Master Raju, Naaz, Sudhir, Tom Alter, Raj Kaul, Mohan Shery, Roshan Taneja, Madhup Sharma, Bhushan Tiwari, Prem Sagar, Pardesi, R.S. Chopra, Peelu Wadia, Mona Bahal, Sudhir Dalvi, Colonel Raj Bharti, Ravinder, Malvinder, Ratan Gaurang, Radheshyam and others. Child artistes Bittu, Ravi Walecha, Vikas, Ritwik, Baby Khushboo, Sandeep, Bunty, Rajesh, Baby Shweta and Sood also featured in this movie. Jackie Shroff, Christine O’Neil, and Master Vaibhav Anand made their debut with this movie.
“Swami Dada-1982” has six songs which were written by Anjaan and composed by Rahul Dev Burman. The singers for this movie are Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Annette Pinto and Anand Kumar C. Two songs from this movie have earlier been posted on this blog.
Today 28th October 2025 is the ninety-fifth birth anniversary of lyricist Anjaan (28th October 1930 – 03rd September 1997). As a tribute to him, I am presenting a song written by him from this movie. This song is in the voice of Kishore Kumar and it appears in the movie as the titles of this movie are rolling on screen.Dev Anand is seen lip syncing in the voice of Kishore Kumar. Christine O’Neil with many other artistes are also visible in the picturisation..

(Note: – Geet Kosh Vol-VI (1981-1985 mentions in the foot note on this movie page that this song is in the voices of Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle on the gramophone records of this movie. However, I was unable to locate any audio or video in the voice of Asha Bhonsle with Kishore Kumar in this song. I would request knowledgeable readers to add more information on this as possible).
