#The Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #

Today 27th November 2025 is the seventy-third birth anniversary of Composer Singer Bappi Lahiri (27.11.1952-15.02.2022). On this occasion as a tribute to him I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Sinhaasan-1986’.
I got to listen to this song earlier this year when I was still at Vadodara and was travelling from the city to my workplace around 47 kms from the city. I had earlier presented filmography of Bappi Lahiri for his Hindi Films from the 1970s and also for few years of the 1980s. However I did not include it in my series of Bappi Lahiri songs where I had presented songs that are part of my memory till 1985, because this song did not fall in that category.
Today’s movie ‘Sinhaasan-1986’ was directed by Krishna who also produced it for ‘Padmalaya Studio, Madras’. So this is one of those movies of actor Jeetendra where he was a part of many films coming from the southern part of the country. Bappi Lahiri too was the regular music composer for such films. I have not watched this movie, so can’t say much about it. However it seems to be a ‘fantasy’ movie. The cast of this movie has Jeetendra, Jaya Prada, Pran, Kader Khan, Mandakini, Shakti Kapoor, Bharat Bhooshan, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Amjad Khan, Sujit Kumar, Gulshan Grover, Gurbachan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Waheeda Rehman, Radha and others.
Lyricist Indeevar wrote the songs for this movie and music was composed by Bappi Lahiri. When I got to listen to this song couple words in the lyrics like ‘aakarshan’ and ‘sadgun’ caught my attention which are rarely used in Hindi songs. It is a wonderful song to listen to. I hope readers will also like it as I do. However it was not this song but another song from this movie that made it to the annual ‘Binaca Geetmala List’ of that year.
Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar are the singers of this duet song. The song is picturised on Jaya Prada and Jeetendra. The song is accompanied by the usual extravagant choreography that was typically seen in fantasy movies with Jeetendra in the lead.
