#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
———————————————————————

Today I am presenting a Qawwaalee song sung by Jaani Babu Qawwaal and Krishna Kalle. The movie is ‘Sakhi Lutera-1969’. This movie had made its debut on the blog on 22.05.2018 with its song ‘sochaa hai tumse pyaar karoon, kyaa khayaal hai’. This song was then presented by our respected Sudhir jee and here is what he had mentioned about the word ‘sakhi’ in the title of such movies and how movies with same titles were repeated in the history of Hindi Films.

Today’s film is ‘Sakhi Lutera’ from 1969. As discussed in some earlier post, the word ‘sakhi’ here is not the Hindi word with the meaning – a lady friend. The word in the film title is an Urdu word that means – generous, munificent, a person who is liberal in giving to others. As you may be already guessing, and rightly so, this film is about the legendary thief Robin Hood, who steals from the rich and distributes to the poor.

In the annals of Hindi films, there are many films made on this legend. There is ‘Sakhi Lutera’ in 1934, then again in 1955 and then this one in 1969. We also have ‘Adventures of Robin Hood’ in 1965 and then ‘Sakhi Robin’ in 1962. There may be more, I have done a quick search to locate these films.

“Sakhi Lutera-1969” was directed by Rustom B Irani for ‘Shahnaaz Films, Bombay’. It had Azad, Tabbassum, Hercules, Chandrakala, Shaikh,Jaani Babu, Shakila Bano Bhopali, Ram Rasila, Habib, Sushma, Heeru Anand, Heera Sawant, Malik, Eruch Tarapur, Desai, Pintu, Toto, Haroon, Shafi, Daud, Muhammad Sandow and others.

This movie has six songs all written by Aziz Ghazi. Music for this movie was composed by B.N. Bali. Krishna Kalle, Usha Balsawar, Talat Mahmood and Jaani Babu Qawwaal are the name of the singers mentioned in Geet Kosh for this movie.

Today’s song is a regular ‘teasing song’ or ‘husn aur ishq qawwaalee’ which is performed by Jaani Babu and Shakila Bano Bhopali (I hope I am correct). Many others are also seen in the picturisation of this song. Geet Kosh mentions the singer’s name for today’s song as Jaani Babu and chorus only. However, some sources on internet mentions the singer’s name as Krishna Kalle and Jaani Babu which I guess is not correct. The female voice in the song must be of Shakila Bano Bhopali I think. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs. Video of the today’s song is available but at many places the film footage is cut and thus some lines appear missing in the song. I have put (?) at such places.

let us enjoy this song now…

inkee chaalon kaa koi bharosaa naheen

arey hum jo roothhenge to khud aap hee samjhaaoge
jaayiye jaayiye aayiney mein soorat dekho o
ajee chhodiye chhodiye soorat ko

tum bade wo ho manaa lete ho
tum bhee to lad ke mohabbat kaa mazaa lete ho
chhodo takraar chalo hathh milaa lein aao
baat jo sach hai zamaane ko bata den aao

aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa
kab ladey aur …
