Pancham’s Music – Eighties-to-Nineties (1981-1994…) Duets-2
Today’s duet song is from the movie ‘Hum Hain Laajawaab-1984’. It is another Kumar Gaurav starrer movie from the eighties having some good music by R.D. Burman.
“Hum Hain Laajawaab-1984” was directed by Mohan Saigal for ‘Milan Movies, Bombay’. It was co-produced by Jawaharlal Bafna-C.D. Mehta-Vasant Doshi-and Mrs. B.N. Shah. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 21.08.1984. The cast of this movie has Kumar Gaurav, Padmini Kolhapure, Shakti Kapoor and Monty. They were supported by Kalpana Iyer, Kamal Kapoor, Prem Kalra, Yunus Parvez, Rakesh Bedi, Kiran Wairale, Ravindra Kapoor, Vikas Anand, Mohan Choti, Sudhir Dalvi, Jagdish Raj, Mushtaq Merchant, Birbal, Shivraj, Gauri Verma, Viju Khote, Manmouji, Sunil Dhawan, Bhola, Praveen Kumar, Shakeel, Ranveer Raj, Suhail Khan, Baby Dadi, Master Vikas, Master Ravi and others. Mayur and Huma had a special appearance in this movie.
Here is a brief about this movie that Peevesie’s Mom jee had mentioned while presenting a song from this movie on the blog in 2023.
“Thakur (Kamal Kapoor) is a wealthy, principled, and punctual man, who will not tolerate anything, even music in his palatial home. Thakur’s only motto in life is money, and each and every second is spent on making and earning money. His elder son, Amar Kumar (a grown up Master Mayur) rebels against this, and is warned. But Amar does not heed this warning, and falls in love with a poor gypsy girl, Jyoti (Huma Khan), and both elope in order to escape the wrath of his dad. Thakur second son, Pawan Kumar (Kumar Gaurav), is sent away abroad so that there are no lingering bad influences on his life. Years later, Pawan returns home, and is the exact cold-hearted and arrogant image as his dad. Amar and his wife give birth to a son, and Amar writes to his dad to forgive him. Shortly thereafter the couple pass away, leaving their son, with Jyoti’s sister, Dilruba (Padmini Kolhapure). Thakur decides to forgive his late son and asks Pawan to go and bring his grandson (Master Ravi) home. Pawan sets forth to get his nephew, with the help of MGM (Rakesh Bedi), and meets a host of less-than-fortunate people. His attitude does not get him anywhere with Dilruba and he is forced to assume another identity, that of Aashiq, to try and get his nephew home. He does succeed in pulling wool over Dilruba’s eyes and both eventually fall in love with each other – little knowing that his dad has already planned his marriage with wealthy Meenakshi (Kiran Wairale) and if he refuses he may suffer the same fate as Amar.”
This movie “Hum Hain Laajawaab-1984” has seven songs composed by R.D. Burman. Anand Bakshi is the Lyricist for this movie. I have not watched this movie but I recall that a couple of its songs were frequently played and heard during those days. The songs that I remember from this movie are ‘koyee pardesee aayaa pardes mein’ sung by Anwar that I like very much, and ‘dilbar dil jaanee aa aa dilbar diljaanee’ sung by Asha Bhonsle and R.D. Burman. Out of these two the song ‘koyee pardesee aayaa pardes mein’ has already been posed on the blog. If I remember correctly this movie wasn’t successful despite good music. None of its songs made it to the Binaca Geetmala annual list of 1984.
Two songs from this movie have been posted on this blog in the past. Today I am presenting the third song from this movie which is a duet song sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Anwar. This song is a nice song that may be familiar to music lovers. This song is picturised on Kumar Gaurav and Padmini Kolhapure.
The audio version of this song has three stanzas whereas the video has only two stanzas.
Let us listen to this beautiful duet composed by Rahul Dev Burman.

Lyrics
duniyaa badal gayee hai
yaa ham badal gaye hain
lagtaa hai dil ke saare…
armaan nikal gaye hain
laa laa laa laa laa aa
laa aa laa aa aa aa aa
duniyaa badal gayee hai
yaa ham badal gaye hain
lagtaa hai dil ke saare…
armaan nikal gaye hain
dilrubaa◦◦◦aa aa
dilrubaa◦◦◦ aa aa
is raaste se ham ko
waapas naheen hai jaanaa
aawaaz de rahaa hai
kyun ham ko ye zamaanaa aa aa
is raaste se ham ko
waapas naheen hai jaanaa aa
aawaaz de rahaa hai
kyun ham ko ye zamaanaa
manzil se bhee musaafir
aage nikal gaye hain
lagtaa hai dil ke saare
armaan nikal gaye hain
dilrubaa◦◦◦ aa
dilrubaa◦◦◦◦◦aa aa
duniyaa mein kam naheen thhe
din raat ke ye mele ae
tere baghair lekin
kitne thhe ham akele
duniyaa mein kam naheen thhe
din raat ke ye mele ae
tere baghair lekin
kitne thhe ham akele
jab se milee hain nazren
bas ham machal gaye hain
lagtaa hai dil ke saare
armaan nikal gaye hain
dilrubaa ….. aa aa
dilrubaa ….. aa aa
ye pyaar aag hai wo
jiskaa dhuaan naheen hai
jalne kaa dekhne ko
koyee nishaan naheen hai ae
ye pyaar aag hai wo
jiskaa dhuaan naheen hai
jalne kaa dekhne ko
koyee nishaan naheen hai ae
dil kee lagee mein lekin
ham donon jal gaye hain
lagtaa hai dil ke saare
armaan nikal gaye hain
duniyaa badal gayee hai
yaa ham badal gaye hain
lagtaa hai dil ke saare
armaan nikal gaye hain
dilrubaa◦◦◦ aa aa
dilrubaa◦◦◦ aa aa
dilrubaa◦◦◦ aa aa
dilrubaa◦◦◦ aa aa
