The above is the complete ghazal by Ameer Minai. The famous line “Jo chup rahegi zubaan e khanjar, lahu pukaregaa aasteen ka” is partly used in the last stanza of this song posted recently. Since the famous line is the crux of the matter, and full ghazal is the complete story, so given above as food for thought.
It was my lucky day when I have found this endearing solo by Rafi Sahab, which is not posted from the 1949 film “Jal tarang”. For some reason, I was a bit possessive about this one, as after a long time I have a new Rafi solo from the 40’s to post. I wrote down the lyrics but wanted to save it for a special occasion.
Now I am not sure, when that occasion will come, but this cannot wait any more. I always find the songs composed by Husnlal Bhagatram, a bit more cute and fresh, because of never having heard before. This is what we have missed among the old hindi film songs, for not patronising ‘Radio Cylone”. On vividh Bharati and All India Urdu service, the songs of Husnlal-Bhagatram were conspicuously absent.
Now it is a delight to discover these gems, which is what this blog and its daily activity of finding and posting a few songs is all about. About discussing, I am not really sure anymore. My comments on the song post has gone unanswered. Maybe the answer will come yet, hopefully.

Now let’s enjoy this solo song, a pensive one. But not sad, lament with a twist. Where have these voices gone, who were this simple and this honest? (While we are saddled with this complicated and devious world) A song where the tune is made with lyrics in hand. Yes. That is what is so refreshing, as a simply worded poetry is transformed into a song, with mukhda repetition, interspersed lines to make it that much more interesting to hear and appreciate.
