Blog Day :

6421 Post No. : 19931

There were days in the past when I used to make sure that I covered one song from a debutant movie and another song that was the final song of the movie (in other words, the movie got YIPPEED with that song). That was part of my new year resolution of 2018. On that year I managed to stick to the resloution of one debutant movie daily upto 28 April 2018 ( with four days break on 29 January, 8 april, 20 april, 27 april). The resolution of one YIPPEED movie every day lasted till 24 April 2018 (with break of three days for YIPPEE songs-22 January, 20 April and 22 April). Following the new year resolution for nearly four months must be considered a heroic performance seeing how most new resolutions die out in less than a week. 🙂

In this year 2026, I have made rather feeble resolutions. With over 5100 movies already represented in the blog, there was not much scope left for covering one debutant movie every day. If some movies are still making debuts on the blog, it is thanks to the contributions of some enthusiastic guest contributors.

The blog, on the other hand, had 1543 YIPPEED movies when the year 2026 began. I have made a half hearted resolution to ensure that movies that have just one song left need to be YIPPEED. Some other regulars too have added their mites and covered the final songs of some movies. So, this new year has seen 21 movies getting YIPPEED in 44 days of 2026, at an average of one movie getting YIPPEED every alternate day.

Today, I have taken up the movie “Nai Duniya Naye Log”(1973) as part of my one YIPPEE movie every day (or at least every alternate day) resolution.

This movie was produced by I M Kunnu and directed by B R Ishara. This movie had four songs in it. Three songs have been covered in the past.

The second song from the movie to appear in the blog was covered on 22 July 2025, on the occasion of the remembrance day of Mukesh. Since it was a Mukesh song, it was natural that this post was covered by Mahesh Mamadapur. What is special about this Mukesh post was that it was a joint collaboration of Mahesh Mamadapur and Raja Swaminathan. While, Mahesh Mamdapur gave statistical details of the collabration of Sapan Jagmohan (music director of this movie) with Mukesh, Raja reminisced about his memories of Mukesh during his younger days. He also provided the story of the movie.

I take this opportunity to reproduce the story of the movie as given by Raja, here:

Shyam (Satyen, introduced in this film) lives with his wealthy step-mother, Nadira, and school-going step-sister. His father has bequeathed all wealth and property to Nadira.
She is a thorough alcoholic, and ill-treats not only Satyen but also her own daughter.
Unable to bear this ill treatment, Satyen walks out with his step-sister, forsaking all the wealth.

His closest friend is Sandhya (Reena Roy), who is the daughter of the wealthy, but greedy, Manmohan Krishna (MK).

Now that Shyam has to fend for himself, MK strongly disapproves of his daughter’s association with Shyam.
But Sandhya defies him, and continues her friendship.
Shyam loves Sandhya but doesn’t reveal it to her.
She, on her part, has blind faith in him.

Enter Danny (Prakash).
He’s a wealthy, flamboyant businessman, ever-ready to flirt with women.
MK is impressed by his wealth, invites him home – and wants him to marry Sandhya.
Prakash casts his charm on Sandhya, who immediately falls madly in love with him.
When Shyam sings “do honth khile” to Sandhya, she imagines Prakash singing it to her. 🙂
Prakash soon proposes to Sandhya.
She consults Shyam, saying she will marry Prakash only if he approves of it.

Shyam is heartbroken, but seeing how madly she is in love with Prakash, he encourages her to go ahead.
At the engagement with Prakash, Sandhya finds him flirting with other women.
Meanwhile, an anonymous letter delivered to her warns her about Prakash, saying he has fathered a child with the writer of the letter.
All this makes Sandhya start having doubts.
She goes back to Shyam, expressing her concerns.
He tells her not to worry – but himself goes and confronts Prakash, to ask him what’s going on.
Prakash dismisses him, saying that’s the type of person he is, and Sandhya should be knowing that already.
Anyway, after some thought, Sandhya returns the engagement ring, breaking the engagement.
She goes back to Shyam, saying she’s done with Prakash, and wants to be with someone who genuinely loves her.
She starts realising that this person is Shyam, and no one else.
Meanwhile, Prakash is furious at being rejected.
He tells Sandhya he wants to talk to her, and takes her in his car.
But he drives it like a madman, telling her he’s going to kill himself, but also not let her live.
He drives the car off a cliff and dies, but she manages to jump out in time.
The film has another important side story – a romantic relationship between MK and Nadira.
Nadira falls in love with MK, and they plan to get married.
But Sandhya knows her father MK all too well, and warns Nadira that he is only interested in her wealth, nothing else.

To test this, Nadira informs MK that she has decided to donate all her wealth to charity.
After all, since MK is himself wealthy, there’s no need for Nadira to keep her wealth too.
MK is shocked – and, being greedy, shows his true colours.
Furious, Nadira shoots him, and ends up being taken by the police.
All in all, it’s a pretty interesting film – typical BR Ishaara.
Interestingly, Manmohan Krishna is in an unusual role – very different from his usual soft-spoken, man with a big heart, roles.

As mentioned earlier, “Nai Duniya Naye Log”(1973) had four songs in it and three of its songs have been covered in the blog. Here are the details of the songs already covered in the blog:-

It can be observed that all the three songs of the movie have been covered by our regular fellow music lovers and guest contributors of the blog. All the three songs are solo songs and they are sung by three different singers.

When I checked up the fourth and final song from the movie, I realised that this song too was a Mukesh song, albeit a Mukesh duet with Suman Kalyanpur. The song from this movie that presented by Mahesh Mamdapur (with Raja) was part of his “Mukesh with his Music directors” series, so Mukesh with Sapan Jagmohan was already covered by him, using another song from “Nai Duniya Naye Log”(1973).

Had Mahesh Mamadapur earmarked this song for his Mukesh and his co singers series ? On checking up, I realised that he had already covered Mukesh with Suman Kalyanpur in this post. The only other combination of Mukesh could be with actors, but video of this song is not available, so this song cannot be taken up as past of Mukesh and his Actors series. 🙂

Thankfully, Mahesh Mamadapur has yet to take up “Mukesh and his lyricists” series, so I assume I am free to take up this song. I still wonder how he let go of this wonderful gem of a song.

An audio link of this song is available on YT, but the quality of that audio leaves something to be desired. Moreover, that link does not contain the full audio and gets cut abruptly 30 seconds prior to the end. It turns out that I had a better quality audio available with me for thelast several years. I was obviously leaving this song to be taken up by Mahesh Mamadapur all these years. Now that this song seems avilable for me to take up, here is this gem of a song from “Nai Duniya Naye Log”(1973). The movie sank without trace, as was the usual fate of B R Ishara’s “bold” movies of those days. But this song deserved a better fate.

Here is this song which is sung by Mukesh and Suman Kalyanpur. Naqsh Llayalpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sapan Jagmohan.

Only audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song. Since Raja appears to have watched this movie (going by the detailed story given by him), I request him to tell us about the picturisation of this song.

With this song, all the four songs of “Nai Dunia Naye Log”(1973) have been covered in the blog. The movie thus joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.

Lyrics

ae pyaar mujhe ae ro lene de
ae pyaar mujhe ae ro lene de
ke meree palkon ke ae kinaare jalte hain
ik aag lagee armaanon mein
ke mere jeene ke ae sahaare jalte hain
ae pyaar mujhe ae ro lene de
ke meree palkon ke ae kinaare jalte hain

tere liye toda hai sone kee deewaaron ko
apna lahoo doongee teree ee berang bahaaron ko
aa chun len raah ke khaaron ko

ae pyaar mujhe ae ro lene de
ke meree palkon ke

kaise jiyenge hum jiyen gar doob ke aahon mein
kab se pareshaan hain
milan ke khwaab nigaahon mein
bulaa le pyaar kee baahon mein

do honthh hiley
ik geet suna
mehke phoolon kee jawaanee jhoom gayee
in dhadkan ka sangeet suna
behke jharnon kee ee jawaanee jhoom gayee
mehke phoolon kee jawaanee jhoom gayee
