In this post we cover a song from the ‘1965’ movie “Aasmaan Mahal”.
“Aasmaan Mahal” was directed by Khawaja Ahmed Abbas for ‘Naya Sansaar, Bombay’.It had Prithviraj, Surekha, Nana Palsikar, Rashid Khan, Madhukar, Yunus Parvez, Mridula, Dilip Raj, Ravikant, Virendra Raj Anand, Chandar B. Kaushal, Anwar Hussain, Naseem Bano, Ishrat Sultana, Anugeeta, David, Ram Singh, Murty, M.A. Parkar, Irshad Panjatan, Babbanlal, Agrawal, Rani, Shibdhatullah and others.
This movie has six songs. Three songs were credited to Ali Sardar Jafri, in one of them he gets jointly credited with Ghalib, while Majaz gets credited for one song. Lyricist name is not mentioned for remaining two songs.

This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and it is lip synced on screen by Dileep Raj. This song is part of a ‘mushaaira’.
In the movie this recitation takes place after a ‘nazm’ recitation by the actress Surekha viz ‘toone samjhi hi nahin kya hai haqeeqat meri’. The actor Dileep Raj who plays a son of the ‘Nawaab’ Prithvi Raj Kapoor in the movie presents another ‘nazm’ in response. Both of them love each other but their ‘social status’ is preventing them from marrying each other. At the end of the movie, all this is ‘happily resolved’ as mentioned by Sudhir ji in his post here.
We have some beautiful verses written by Ali Sardar Jafri and recited by Mahendra Kapoor. The video of the song has no music in it while the audio recording of the song is accompanied by music.
