Today (18 february 2016) is the birth anniversary of Nimmi (DoB 18 february 1933). Sri Lanka Broadcasting Service honoured Nimmi by playing solo songs picturised on her in “Film sangeet” and duet songs picturised on her in the “Puraani Filmon Ke Geet” programme today.

I have observed one thing that the fans of HFM are generally absolute diehards about their favourite singers. Lata, Asha, Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Saigal, Talat, Manna Dey, Geeta and Shamshad are usually the favourite singers of music lovers and their fans are simply devoted to them. Out of this list, just remove Saigal and Talat, because they had Unique voices and there was no direct competitors of them as far as their voices were concerned.

Walking the passages of love, one encounters enchanting emotions and charming music – heady feelings that will lure heart and mind into gardens with blossoming springs, chirping birds and fragrant flowers. But the discerning eyes will also see, the pathways strewn with fragile fragments, unobtrusively lying by the side, that tell another story. These are the delicate pieces of broken hearts that have suffered the pains of separation and the agony of desertion, an agony that is at times, too intense for the sensitive hearts to bear. “Dhoop Chhaaon” (1954), not to be confused with “Dhoop Chhaaon” (1935) was directed by S M Arza for Suhair Art Productions. The movie had Bharat Bhushan, Shyama, N. A. Ansari, Mumtaz, Krishna Kumari, Shamim Akhtar etc in it.
