Today’s song is from the film Aahuti-1950.
This unknown film was made by Sansar Movietone, Bombay. Produced by L.Shankar, it was directed by Kulbhushan. The story, screenplay and the dialogues were by a team of H.C.Jaiswal, G.Saran and L.Shankar. The music for the 12 songs of the film was given by D.C.Dutt. There is not much information available about D.C.Dutta, not even what the initials D.C. stand for.
All of us know that Lata Mangeshkar had to struggle very hard in her initial attempts to get into Playback singing in Hindi films. In her early struggle, 3 Duttas helped her. The first was of course Datta Davjekar who gave her the first opportunity to sing a Playback song for his film Aapki sewa mein-1947. The second was K.Datta or Datta Korgaonkar, who, after his favourite singer Noorjehan left India, took Lata under his wings and gave her songs. The third Dutta was this-D.C.Dutt. No information is available about him whatsoever, except what is printed in HFGK and its duplication in Pankaj Raag’s book “Dhunon ki Yatra”. Thanks to this, we know that his debut was through the film Sona Chandi-1946. Out of 12 songs of the film, only two were his and one of them was by Lata Mangeshkar.

Today’s song is from the C grade Costume film Simba-1951.
I was a great fan and admirer of C grade action/stunt/costume films from my young age. The decorative sets and the unusually long, shining and attractive costumes in the films, the daredevil stunts and the hand or the sword fighting in these films impressed me. Unfortunately, as I grew older, the number of such films was reducing and by the time I almost stopped running after films by the 1970 beginning, C grade action, stunt and Costume films almost disappeared from the theatres. Perhaps their regular audience thinned out or the stuntmen became old or producers of such films turned to other more respectable Genres. Whatever the reason, reality was that the end of such films had occurred !

Today’s song is from the film Aahuti-1950.
I have not seen this film and I could not get any details of this film like its story etc from any source, so I do not know what kind of ‘ sacrifice ‘(aahuti) this film was about. From some of the songs, this film Aahuti aka Anokhi qurbani seems to be a film about Independence struggle or on conditions soon after India’s independence. This also looks like having a love story in the background.

Today’s song is from the film Simba-1951.
The film was made by Comedy Pictures. The director was Mohammed Hussain and the music was by D C Dutt. The cast of the film was Baburao, Krishnakumari, Shaikh, Bimla, Indira, habib and others. I have not seen this film but from the photos and the posters of this film it appears to be a kind of a distorted take on a Tarzan-like story.

Today’s song is the 5th song from the film Aahuti-50, to be discussed here. I have not seen this film, but from its second Title ” Anokhi Kurbani “, the movie seems to be about some kind of sacrifice. Whether it was for the country, family or just a Lover is not known. This was one of those films, made by a less known banner, directed by one whose name I read first time- Kulbhushan and the MD, who left no trace of him either of origin or the end- D.C.Dutt.

Today (15 august 2017) is the 71st independence day of India.
This is the 10st independence day for this blog. We have discussed all well known independence day songs during the past occasions. But no, we have not run out of songs for the occasions. We still have quite a few such songs up our sleeve.

Today (20 july 2017) is the 45th remembrance day of Geeta Dutt (23 november 1930-20 july 1972). By that time, she had achieved so much in her chosen field of activity that she was assured of being counted among HFM legends. It is easy to forget that she was just 41 when she passed away. That way, she was one of those who departed for their heavenly abode quite early, yet achieved a lot in their fields and became legends. Some other such names that come to mind are Guru Dutt (her own spouse), Jaikishan, Shailendra etc.
