“Durgesh Nandini”(1956) was directed by B Mitra for Filmistan. The movie was based on a Bankim Chandra Chatterji novel of the same name. The movie had Pradeep Kumar, Bina Rai, Nigar Sultana, Nalini Jaywant, Jeevan, Ajit, I.S.Johar, D.K.Sapru, Murad, Bipin Gupta, Jankidas, Nayampalli, Sheila Vaz, Manju etc in it.

Today (6 december 2014) is the fifth death anniversary of Bina Rai (4 June 1931- 6 December 2009). Here is a song from “Durgesh Nandini”(1956) on this occasion. This song is sung by Lata. The song is lip synced by Bina Rai whereaas a group of female dancers are seen performing a dance. Sheila Machandra is one of dancers that can be identified.

Though few people today talk of this movie, “Durgesh Nandini” (1956) was a well known movie even in 1970s when I was growing up in the sense that I used to read about this movie in magazines.
