“Haqeeqat” (1964) was a movie full of wonderful songs. The movie itself was depressing for the Indian audience, considering the storyline of the movie.

We all are aware that Madan Mohan movies tended to have songs that are now regarded as classics. But the movie makers of those movies were not aware of this fact at that time.

This is a song where the genius of Kaifi Azmi can be seen in his ability to express complex, complicated and involved feelings in a very coherent and understandable manner. The situation is one where India ( a peace loving country that had no time and inclination for a war) was attacked by China in 1962, and as happens with those unprepared, untrained and unequipped, the Indian soldiers found themselves as sitting ducks on the front.

Here is a very very moving song dedicated to those who lay down their lives to protect national boundary from external threats. This song from “haqeeqat” has become an iconic song. Today, now that India is paying its respects to the martyrs who laid down their lives to fight terrorists who had attacked Mumbai, this song is being played in TV channels.
