Heer Ranjha of 1948 was produced by Punjab Film Corporation, Bombay and directed by Vali Saheb, who also wrote lyrics for all the eleven songs for the film. One of the songs was in Punjabi language, no wonder as the production house was Punjab Film Corporation and the film was based on very famous tragic folk-lore of lovers Heer and Ranjha from Punjab. The star cast according to HFGK included Mumtaz Shanti, Ghulam Mohammad, Gulab, Roop Kamal, Majnu, Raamlal, Gulnar, Malik Amin, Aziz, Minaai, Neela Devi, Aziz Kashmiri, Nauratavi etc.

Most songs discussed in this blog are movie songs which were included in the movie when that movie was released. But there are some cases in which songs, even though they were recorded as part of the movie ended up getting excluded from the movie for one reason or the other. In some cases, the movie makers decided to exclude the song, in some cases, censors ordered the exclusion of the song, and in one case, this was done one week after the movie was released !
