“Balam”(1949) is a movie that had Suraiyya in it alongwith Wasti,Nigar Sultana, Agha etc. This movie is also significant for the fact that Suraiyya and Lata sang together for the first time (out of a total of just five such occasions). I have in fact already discussed the first such Lata-Suraiyya duet which is O o pardesi musaafir kise kartaa hai ishaare .

“Sanam” (1951) is a movie starring Suraiyya and a very young Meena Kumari in it. Like most movies of those days, this movie too is replete with nice songs.

If the title of a movie begins with the adjective “Chhoti” and it is followed by a common noun depicting a female person then you can expect a movie full of sacrifices and sad songs. Playful romantic songs, especially those that are picturised on a pair of actors who were actually romantically involved always makes for good listen/watch. Dev Anand and Suraiyya were one of the first such on screen couple.
