Hullo to all in Atuldom
We had the penultimate song from “Jaawaani Deewaani” as “Nahin Nahin Abhi Nahin Abhi Karo Intezaar” and our Shenoyji has asked “how this song escaped being posted?”. Even I was surprised to find that it was left out.

Hullo to all Atulwaale
So valentines’ day, as the world celebrates, is over and done with. All the red heart shaped balloons might have lost the air in them and stopped soaring high. All the guys will now be sewing the holes in their pockets that the gifting, dining and partying would have caused. And am sure the gals -as in guys ‘n’ gals- will be waiting for the next opportunity to drill a hole in their guys wallets/pockets.

So now our blog is 9788 songs old. And I am increasingly beginning to feel like Sachin Tendulkar. What do his stats say? It says that he has scored 100 hundreds in international cricket both One Days and test matches put together. Now when we (my daughter and me) started sending contributions to the blog our aim was to send 100 contributions between the two of us. Then she slowed down because of various reasons (academic commitments being the main reason.) but I was having some free time and whenever the writing bug bit me I would send one across to Atul. Next came those dates when it was the birthday or death anniversary of any of my favorites or birthday of any important person for the blog itself (read Arunkumarji, Atul and the blog itself). So there were days when I used to send mails to Atul daily and sometimes I am absent from the blog for weeks. But after I got the mail from Sudhirji I have taken it upon myself to be more active on the blog and I have now reached 90 contributions on the blog (33 as lyrics contributor.) So this is what I said about “feeling like Tendulkar”.

Watching old Hindi movies (and its songs) is a good way to look back at the past and see how things were back then. Another way of looking back at the past is by going through the publications of those days.
I recall that I was an avid reader of books in my younger days, viz 1970s. I would read each and every book, whether they were meant for kids or grown ups. In addition to being an avid reader, I was an avid collectors of children’s magazines in Hindi. The children’s magazines in Hindi those days used to be “Bal Bhatri”, “Nandan”,”Champak”,”Parag”, “Lotpot”, Chandamama”, “Indrajaal Comics” etc. You name the children’s magazines and I collected them. I not only collected them, I catalogued them systematically too. They were my prized possessions. I would not be averse to get hold of magazines not in my collection, but I would be quite reluctatnt to lend my magazines to others, because the likelihood of the borrower returning the book were remote in most cases. One needed to pester the borrower hard, sometimes by visiting his home, before one could get your book back.

In the golden era of Hindi movie music, songs played a very important role in the success of the movies. In fact, many of the actors, especially male actors owe their success to the singing of the leading male singer of the time.

It is my gut feel (and I may be wrong here) that the early 70s saw more newcomers entering the Hindi film industry for significant roles (not necessarily hero/heroine) than any other period before this time.
