So here is the ‘S’ alphabet song I talked about in my last post on ‘R’ song. It is a Rafi solo with two versions, one happy and one sad, from the movie “Jhuk gayaa aasmaan”. Such a musical blockbuster film starring Rajendra Kumar and Saira Bano. And wherever I was looking for Rafi sahab’s songs in the list with S-J’s music they were all in red. I could not believe my luck when I found that this song was not posted.

“Jhuk Gaya Aasmaan” (1968) was an R D B Production. It was directed by Lekh Tandon. The starcast had Rajendra Kumar, Saira Banu, Prem Chopra,Rajendranath, Parveen Choudhary, Jagirdar, Randhir, Jagdish Raaj, Sulochana, Chaman Puri, Kamal Kapoor, Madhumati, David Abraham, Durga Khote, Hari Shivdasani etc in it.

I am often amazed at the high quality output of Rafi towards the 1950s and 1960s when he was at the peak of his career. The 1960s were especially remarkable. In this decade, he sang outstanding songs, not just for big stars, but also for lesser known actors.

This Lata song from “Jhuk Gaya Aasmaan” is a new song for me, in the sense that I have never heard this song till today.

My regular readers may have noticed that I classify my songs based on the place where the song is picturised. Thus we have had car song, rail song, even elephant song, in this blog.
This particular song is a bathroom song by my definition because it is sung in a bathroom. Unlike most bathroom songs which are sung by amateur bathroom singers, this bathroom song is sung by no less a singer than Lata. What is more, this must be one of the sweetest and most melodious songs that Lata must have sung in her career. At least that is what I have always felt about this song.
