I have already posted two songs from “Kaabuliwaala” (1960). This movie was a very moving tale of a Pathan from Afghanistan who lives in Calcutta away from his family, including his young daughter, and he misses her every day. He adores Minnie ( a young girl) in Calcutta and after initial apprehensions, she too takes to him.

“Kabuliwala”, a movie based on Rabindranath Tagore’s moving story of the same name, was significant in many respects. The fact that Bollywood adopted stories of great writers was praiseworthy. The other fact that the story faithfully followed the story was also nice.
In fact, it was a movie that perhaps did the most to popularise this story.

A very moving tale of an Afghani Pathan living in Calcutta, leaving his wife and young daughter behind in Afghanistan. This story was written by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, and I had read it in my Hindi textbook during my school days.
It was the first time I read such a moving tale. I could fully empathise with the feelings of the Afghan towards the young Calcutta girl who reminds him of his daughter.
