Today’s song is from a less known film- Mordhwaj-1952. This was a Mythological film, about a less known incident which happened during the Ashwamedh Yadnya by Pandavas, after they won the Kurukshetra war against the Kauravas, with the help of Shri Krishna.

Seeing religious films had many advantages. When I was very young I had to see, not by choice, such films while taking a group of family elders to the Theatres. Initially, I was happy, then reluctant and later on an interested person. First it increases your knowledge about your religion. Most children knew about religion through what was taught in the books or told by the elders in the families. I mean, this was the situation some decades ago, when I was a school boy, i.e. the 40’s and the 50’s. Nowadays, the school books do not have stories from Religion and there are no elders in 90% of the families.

Today’s song is from the film Mordhwaj-1952.

Having seen so many Mythological films since early childhood, I got interested in knowing more about our religion and started reading books of religious stories. As such the family atmosphere was also conducive to religious learning, so it actually accentuated my attraction more. Among Ramayan and Mahabharat, I liked Mahabharat more. Lord Krishna, I felt, was more relevant to today’s world, which understands 2 principles….” might is Right’ and ” Tit for tat”.

I have mentioned in one of my earlier post here that these days I am looking for movies where only one song has been posted so far. In my daily browsing of the blog while I have already noted some movies, new surprises keep coming e.g. the time-lag between posting of the first song of the movie and thereafter posting of the second song. While we can understand a couple of year time-lag is considerable some have to wait for their second song almost more than five to six years or even ten years as we have seen during posting of ‘blog ten-year challenge song’. Well, if that was not enough, I have found a movie with a song posted in 2008 and still waiting for its second song to be posted on the blog. 😊

BHAJAN MALA – GOLDEN 50s (Pushp-7)
—————————————

One advantage of seeing religious films was that it increased your knowledge of mythology and the Puranas. Though there was a common principle highlighted( Satyamev Jayate or the victory of Good over Bad ), every story’s treatment and content used to be different. With our Holy books overflowing with stories involving all types of Gods, Godesses and Bhakts, film producers must have never fallen short of stories. Famous and well known studios like Bombay Talkies, Sagar, Mohan, Prakash, Prabhat, Wadia or Filmistan stuck to popular and traditional stories like Satyavan Savitri, Bhakta Dhruv, Shri Ram or Shrikrishna. other production companies tried comparatively less known, unknown or even Hybrid stories (Mythological base but treated in filmy style) to make films.
