Today (4th january) seems to be an important day for Hindi movies, seeing that several artists were either born on this day or they expired on this day.
Nirupa Roy, who in the mind of most moviegoers of my generation was immortalised as the long suffering mother of the hero (typically Amitabh Bachchan), was born on 4th january.

Lyrics
itihaas agar likhna chaaho
itihaas agar likhna chaaho
aazaadi ke majmoon se
itihaas agar likhna chaaho
aazaadi ke majmoon se
to seencho apni dharti ko veeron tum apne khoon se
har har har mahaadev alla hu akbar
har har har mahadev alla hu akbar
aapas mein ladna chhodo bhedbhaav ka sar todo
aapas me ladna chhodo bhedbhaav ka sar todo
watan pe aafat aayi hai to taar dil ka dil se jodo
taar dil ka dil se jodo
agar bandhna chaahe koi zulm bhare kaanoon se
zulm bhare kaanoon se
to seencho apni dharti ko veeron tum apne khoon se
har har har mahadev alla hu akbar
har har har mahadev alla hu akbar
hamen na abla samjhe koi
ham bhaarat ki naari hain
ham bhaarat ki naari hain
komal komal phool nahin
ham jwaala hain chingaari hain
ham jwaala hain
chingaari hain
chhod do paayal ki jhankaar haath mein lo teekhi talwar
hata do ghoonghat ka singaar
bano ranchandi ka avtaar
hey ambe jagdambe
hey ambe jagdambe
hey ambe jagdambe
hey ambe jagdambe
taar dil ka dil se jodo
agar jo chaaho vatan hamaara
hansta rahe sakoon se
hansta rahe sakoon se
to seencho apni dharti ko veeron tum apne khoon se
har har har mahaadev alla hu akbar
har har har mahadev alla hu akbar
itihaas agar likhna chaaho aazadi ke majmoon se
to seencho apni dharti ko veeron tum apne khoon se
har har har mahadev alla hu akbar
har har har mahadev alla hu akbar
har har har mahadev alla hu akbar
har har har mahadev alla hu akbar

I have repeatedly stressed the fact that there was nothing B grade about the music of these so called B and C grade movies. But as far as the public were concerned, the music of these movies would fail to catch up, mainly because of lack of exposure. Since most people would not watch these movies, they would not be aware of these songs, and the records of these songs would not be made and sold as a result of non popularity of these songs. So it was a catch 22 situation for the music of B grade movies.

In 1950s, we had a few movies which showed musical showdown by two musicians. Both of them would contest against each other trying to score musical brownie points, before the hero ( singing in the voice of a mainstream singer) would be adjusted to have won against the lesser actor ( singing in the voice of a classical singer).
