Today 24th December 2024 is the One hundredth birth anniversary of the legendary singer – ‘divine voice’ – Mohd Rafi. He was born on 24th December 1924 and he passed away on 31st July 1980. Today’s day is another important day for us music lovers all over the world. This day marks the ‘centenary birth celebrations’ for this great singer.

“Surajmukhi”(1950) was directed by O P Dutta for Madhuban, Bombay. This “social” movie had Rehana, Shyam, Gope, Yashodhara Katju, Hafeez Khan, Randheer, Mukri, Cuckoo, Durga Khote etc in it.
The movie had ten songs in it. Three of these songs have been covered in the past.

Surajmukhi (1950) was produced under the banner of Madhuban Pictures and was directed by OP Datta. The star cast included Shyam and Rehana in the lead roles with Gope, Yashodara Katju, Randhir, Durga Khote, Hafeez Jahan, Cuckoo etc in the supporting roles. I did not get any information about the contents of the film. I guess from the songs that the film belonged to the social genre with some shades of romance in it.
