Today’s song is from the 1957 film Ustad.

Ustad was one of those Detective movies that Ashok Kumar has become a specialist in. He was the undisputed choice of all film makers for this genre of films. He too did justice to such films. However, may be due to his age or looks, or due to the nature of this genre, his Heroines in these films were often from the second rung or or else his old companions like Nalini Jaywant, Kamini Kaushal etc. Kumkum, Geeta Gali, and some such actresses acted with him in such movies. Of course Madhubala and even Nutan acted with him in such films.

When I look at the movie titles of O P Nayyar, I find that he had composed in movies called “CID” (1956) as well as “CID 909”. He has worked in “Ustaad”(1957) as well as “Do Ustaad”(1959). He worked in “Basant”(1960) as well as “Phagun”(1958). He worked in “Farishta”(1958) as well as in “Mujrim”(1958),”Qaidi”(1957) and ‘ham Sab Chor Hain”. He worked in movies called “Kalpana”(1960)and “Raagini”(1962) and for matter in “Johny Walker” (1957) as well. Then there were a good number of Mr, Mrs , Miss etc viz. Mr and Mrs 55, Mr Qartoon MA, Mr Lambu, Shreemati 420, Shreemaan ji , Miss Coca Cola.

During 1950s and 1960s, there used to be quite a few movies with the word “ustaad” in them. This blog have had songs from movies viz “Do Ustaad” (1959), “Ustaadon Ke Ustaad” (1963), “Ustaad 420” (1963), “Ham Sab Ustaad Hain” (1965),”Sab Ka Ustaad” (1967) etc but the movie with the defining word in them, viz “Ustaad” was not among them.
