Here is a teasing song that is a beach song as well where boys (Dev Anand, Johny Walker) and girls (Vyjyanti Mala etc) are assembled at a beach. The first commandment of Bollywood movies is- “Though shall sing.” So a song ensues in which Dev Saab, all of 44 years, acts like a teenager teasing a 30 plus Vaijyanti Mala who is herself dressed like a teenager in a figure hugging tight dress. In Bollywood movies, the main theme of the story is love between the lead actors. One variant of this theme in 1960s was love affair between a doctor and a nurse. “Dil Apna Aur Preet Paraayi” (1960) is a movie on this theme that readily comes to mind. Here Meena Kumari, the nusre has a one sided crush on Raj Kumar, the doctor.This movie and this theme must have appealed to the movie makers, because a few more movies like this followed in its wake.

In Bollywood movies, most songs are lip synced on screen by actors. But there are some songs that are played on the background and the actors on the screen are not required to lip sync these songs. I have posted quite a few songs of this nature. All these days, I failed to realise that I should categorise these songs as background songs.

Few people may have heard of this movie called “Taj” (1956). This movie had Pradeep Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala in lead roles. This pair had figured in the blockbuster “Naagin” (1954) and they were most likely signed up for this movie on the wake of their “Naagin” (1954) success.

Geeta Dutt had originally sung this bhajan (“Rakh na ramakda”) in Gujrati movie “Mangal Phera” (1949) for music director Avinash Vyas and that has gone on to become an evergreen bhajan in Gujarati. The same Bhajan was used in “Saadhana” (1958). This time, N Datta was the music director and Sahir Ludhianvi wrote the bhajan in Hindi. Geeta Dutt, who sang it originally in Gujarati, sang it it in the Hindi version too.
