Dhal gaya din ho gayi shaam

Posted on: October 22, 2008

This song is also known as “dhal gaya din THUK ho gayi shaam THUK jaane do THUK jaana hai THUK“.
The lyricist Anand Bakshi had not included the word THUK in the lyrics. This additional word is there in the song thanks to the picturisation, where the heroine Leena Chandawarkar plays badminton with Jeetendra and the sound THUK is generated as the wooden racket hits the shuttlecock.

They are not properly dressed for playing the game , and additionally, they show very poor badminton playing skills. When the two badminton enthusiasts square up at the centre of the floodit open air court, the wind speed appears to be within limits for a game of badminton. Badminton in India those days was played outdoors like cricket. In fact, most people were not aware that badminton was an indoor game.

I think that the above details are more meaningful than the details of the song. For the uninitiated, the song was picturised on Jeetendra ( now known as Ekta Kapoor’s father) and Leena Chandawarkar ( who after the death of her politician husband married Kishore Kumar) and the song was sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle under the music direction of Laxmikant Pyarelal. It was a timepass song, but as timepass songs of that era went, some of them managed to remain popular ever after the movie was consigned to the cans. This song is one of those songs that has survived to this date.

HAHA…”thuk” is certainly an integral part of the lyrics, I agree!
