There are songs that I heard three decades ago, liked them and then forgot all about them. I have been re-discovering quite a few such songs now a days, as I keep mentioning in my posts.
Then there are a few songs which I liked at that time and which I never forgot, but I was unable to find these songs on internet or even on VCD/DVD shops despite my searches.
This song ” chale ja chale ja chale jaa jahaan pyaar mile” from “Jahaan pyaar mile” was one such song. I liked this song so much that I noted down the lyrics of this song in my diary in 1970s. But when I tried to find this song again, I continued to draw a blank every time I tried.
Now I have managed to find this song. And what a song it is! This song still retains the same magic for me as it did 40 years ago.This is one of those songs that touched your heart and often you are unable to explain the reason why you like them.
One may think that this song is sung by Lata, but that is not the case. This is the voice of Suman Kalyanpur. And what a fabulous song ! The lyrics consists of just three lines, but that is more than enough in conveying the message.
The movie itself failed to move the audience, it would seem. But this song is bound to move the listeners. And I consider myself fortunate that I managed to stumble upon this song yet again after more than three decades.
Incidentally there is a male version of this song too sung by Rafi. But it is the female version that became more popular. So kudos to Suman Kulyanpur. She has sung some wonderful songs in her career, and this song is right up their with the best of them.
PS-This song has a male version too which is sung by Rafi. In case of most multiple version songs, it is the male version that tends to become more popular, but this song is an exception. The fact that I was not even aware about the male version tells the story that it was the female version of the song that had caught the imagination of music lovers during its time.

I don’t know the name of the movie (otherwise it would be easy). But he wears a suit and sings with children.

I think Shankar is referring to the song “Ek din bik jayega … ” in Dharam Karam and it is sung by Raj Kapoor.

I think you should include the above lyrics provided my nahm jee as Mohammed Rafi version.
Please make one small correction in the above lyrics as mentioned below, in the 3rd stanza of Rafi Solo/happy/speed version
