Abke sajan saawan mein

on:“Chupke Chupke” was a lighthearted movie where some leading names in Bollywood were assembled and the result was a nice comedy. In a way, this movie was a forerunner of later day movies viz “Golmaal”, “Jaane bhi do yaaron” etc.
The storyline was quite simple really. Everyone has fun at the expense of Om Prakash, the “jeeja ji” of Sharmila Tagore, with the audience in the know. We find that the same formula was used in later day movies of this genre where Om Prakash was replaced by Utpal Dutt, and instead of Dharmendra and Amitabh, we had lesser stars like Amol Palekar etc.
As was often the case in such movies, music was top class and a big attraction of the movie. For instance, the music of this movie was just as memorable as the movie itself.
Here is one of the more memorable songs from “Chupke Chupke”, sung by Lata and picturised on Sharmila Tagore.

Song: Abke sajan saawan mein (Chupke chupke)(1975) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD- S D Burman
Lyrics
ab ke sajan saawan mein
ab ke sajan saawan mein
aag lagegi badan mein
ghataa barsegi magar tarsegi nazar
mil na sakenge do man ek hii aangan mein
ab ke sajan saawan mein
aag lagegi badan mein
ghataa barsegi magar tarsegi nazar
mil na sakenge do man ek hi aangan mein
ab ke sajan saawan mein
lalalalala lalalalala
do dilon ke beech khadi kitni deewaarein
do dilon ke beech khadi kitni deewaarein
kaise sunoongi main piyaa prem ki pukaaren
chori chupke se tum laakh karo jatan,
laakh karo jatan sajan
mil na sakenge do man ek hi aangan mein
ab ke sajan saawan mein
itne bade ghar mein nahin ek bhi jharokhaa
itne bade ghar mein nahin ek bhi jharokhaa
kis tarah ham denge bhalaa duniyaa ko dhokhaa
raat bhar jagaayegi ye mast mast pawan,
mast mast pawan sajan
mil na sakenge do man ek ki aangan mein
ish…
ab ke sajan saawan mein
tere mere pyaar kaa ye saal buraa hogaa
are tere mere pyaar kaa ye saal buraa hogaa
jab bahaar aayegi to haal buraa hogaa
kaante lagaayegaa ye phoolon bharaa chaman,
phoolon bharaa chaman sajan
mil na sakenge do man ek hi aangan mein

If you have seen this movie, the dialougues before and after this seen are quite hilarious
the one before has Dharmendra saying, “Shrivastavji Pee kay aayen hai”
and Om Prakash says, “Tum kaise maloom who peekay aayen hai”
to which the reply is, “Unhone hi kaha ki aapsey kahoon ki P K Shrivastav aayen hai”
the one after has Om Prakash asking him, “TUm yahan Khade Khade kya kar rahe ho”
“Main Khade Khade kuch nahi kar raha, Main Bas aake aake khada hua hun”

I just watched this movie again a couple of days back, and was reminded of my days in school, learning the shudh Hindi of textbooks. It is such a pity that movies these days have more English in them than Hindi, and the shudh Hindi has almost entirely disappeared, in fact ,forget shudh Hindi, basic Hindi itself seems to have disappeared and been replaced by a new language called Hinglish!
