Tu kya jaane bewafa

Hema Malini tended to figure in rather “Bhartiya Naari” kind of songs, but there were occasions when she was seen singing in front of lowly creatures aka “kuttons and kameenos” much to the chagrin of Dharam ji.
In the absence of Dharam ji, the duty of feeling upset at her rests on the shoulders of Randhir Kapoor, who throughout this song (sung in a party) wears a look like he was forced to drink a juice of karela and neem mixed together.
Hema Malini is rather difficult to identify in her open hair, instead of the birdnest like hairstyle that was the norm those days. Randhir Kapoor, the waster can be unmistakenly identified though. In the beginning of the song, Hema Malini appears to be moving on roller skates rather than on her feet singing ” tu kya jaane bewafa”.
Unlike Randhir Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, who makes an entry in the midst of the song, looks smart and self assured.
The film itself was a time pass one, as is evident from its name “Haath ki safaai”, but it must be said that its songs were the redeeming feature of this movie. The great timepass song “peene waalon ko peene ka bahaana chahiya” has already been discussed in this blog. This song ” Tu kya jaane” did not become that popular, in fact I personally do not recall having heard this song before, but there are people like Raja who seem to miss no song of those days, and so it is thanks to his farmaish that I too have been belatedly got exposed to this song.
So here is this second song from ” Haath ki safai” in this blog. And it appears to me that it may not be last such song from this movie. There are other nice songs from this movie crying out for inclusion. And they will be included in future, I am sure.

Song-Tu kya jaane bewafa (Haath ki safaai) (1974) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Gulshan Baawra, MD- Kalyanji Anandji
Tu kya jaane bewafa
o bewafa o bewafa
pyaar karna tere bas ki baat nahin
pyaar karna tere bas ki baat nahin
kisi pe marna tere bas ki baat nhin
o bewafa o bewafa
yaar wo kaise hain jo pyaar bechte hain
o yaar wo kaise hain jo pyaar bechte hain
jeena kya unka jo yaar bechte hain
ham usiko dil kahenge pyar jisme basa
pyar hi to zindagi hai pyar hi hai nasha
tu kya jaane bewafa
o bewafa o bewafa
O teri zafa mujhko is mahfil mein laayi
O teri zafa mujhko is mahfil mein laayi
tere hi jaise yahan sab hain harzai
gham nahin hain iska mujhe gham hai is baat ka
jisko maine apna samjha usne hi loota
tu kya jaane bewafa
o bewafa
o bewafa
pyar karna tere bas ki baat nahin
kisi pe marna tere bas ki baat nahin
o bewafa
o bewafa
o bewafa
o bewafa

Even Those Days(1974) I Clearly Remember That Musical Vivacious Feel Of Those Jhakaas KalyanJiAanandJi Type Instruments Blended Amazingly In This Sort Of “SAD” Song & I Remembered The Lyrics Too..! Undoubtedly,Alongwith SALIM-JAVED Story,KALYANJI-ANANDJI Music Was An Equally Prominent Feature Of This Movie..Also,A Lot Of Listener s Were Going Crazy After A Duet Of RafiSaahab-LataaJi: Waada Kar Le Saajna…(SAME Movie Of Course)

LOL at the “kuttons and kameenos” comment and the “karela and neem mix” comment.
Love your comments, Atul. 🙂
This song was quite well-known, I thought. Or maybe it was just me. I liked it a lot because it is quite catchy. Especially the music with the “tu kya jaane” bit.
Thanks for posting this farmaish of mine.
