Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 31
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Reuse phenomena is quite a prevalent feature in Hindi cinema. We are already at the 31st episode of this series, and I must say we have just scratched the surface. There are reuse songs, there are partial reuse songs, there are medleys of songs, and even in some cases, there is a wholesale reuse in the entire film. A great example is the 2002 film ‘Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar’. Bharat Shah, the producer of this film is an out and out die hard fan of Pancham Da, and this film showcases a dozen earlier hit songs of RD Burman.

Another such set of reuse albeit in snippets only, also happened in the 1982 film ‘Adhaarshila’. The producer director Ashok Ahuja has accommodated half a dozen or so songs from the golden era in the film, which is a film about making a film.

A more recent happening is the weather beaten but still fresh, Romeo and Juliet based love story – the 2023 film by Karan Johar – ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’. This film has a very interesting twist to the original tale – two people in love are not able to join forces in life, and are forced to lead separate life stories. Quite an interesting twist happens when their respective grand children fall in love with each other, initially blessed with the ignorance of the family’s histories and the unsuccessful involvement of their grand parents two generations earlier. Karan Johar seems to be quite smitten with the music of the 50s, 60s and 70s – he has weaved into the film’s story no less than a dozen songs of yesteryear. All songs are snippets one to two minutes long. But a very interesting reuse nonetheless, that makes the film more enjoyable.

However, the difficult part is that the reuse songs are not credited in the information about the film. One has to dig for them, and if lucky, one comes across these reuse gems. There is a very interesting episode behind this find also, and I must thank Nalini ji for it. Recently, she shared with me part of a discussion happening on the ASAD WhatsApp group. The film under discussion was the 1975 ‘Prem Kahani’. And the discussion was on a song being played on the radio in this film, which does not seem to be from a Hindi film. The song, sounding strikingly familiar, is “Kuchh Bhi Na Kaha Aur Keh Bhi Gaye”. The original song is from the 1962 Pakistani film ‘Azra’. The song is written by Tanvir Naqvi and the music is composed by Master Inayat. The singing voice is that of the legendrary Noorjehaan, picturised on actress Neelo. Certainly a song to be treasured. So on the group, the discussion was resolved with a little bit of research, and it was declared that this is song from a Pakistani film.

Nalini ji shared this discussion on the side with me. And surely, it prompted me to take a look. So pulling out the film ‘Prem Kahani’ from my hard disk, I started to scan the film slowly to locate this Pakistani song being played on the radio. But then another discovery was sitting on the way. Before I reached the song I was looking for, I bumped into this song snippet – a replay of the iconic Manna Dey song from the 1961 film ‘Kabuliwaala’. Vinod Khanna, playing the role of Sher Khan, a pathaan truck driver, sings this song on screen, and in his own voice, while driving his vehicle.

‘Prem Kahani’ (of 1975) is a period film that is set in pre-independence years, when the freedom struggle was at its peak. Rajesh (role played by Rajesh Khanna) is a fugitive from the British law, for having assassinated a British police officer. He is on the run with the police hot on his heels. He takes refuge in the truck of Sher Khan who saves his life, and delivers him to safety at the home of Dheeraj (role played by Shashi Kapoor), a very dear friend of Rajesh. I will not delve into the story before and after this episode, but will surely add that Sher Khan gets caught, and the police torture him to find out the whereabouts of Rajesh. Sher Khan dies in police custody but does not reveal the location where he dropped Rajesh.

When Rajesh is riding in Sher Khan’s truck, there is a bit of dialogue between them. Rajesh asks Sher Khan why is he helping him, even though they do not even know each other. Sher Khan replies – yes he does not know Rajesh, but surely he understands the meaning of freedom, and so he is helping Rajesh.

At this point, he starts to sing this song. Interestingly, the rendition is in Vinod Khanna’s own voice. Only one stanza from the original song is presented. But still, a lively rendition by him.

So another reuse of an iconic song, which remains uncredited. And for this discovery, I must thank Nalini ji.

Song – Ae Mere Pyaare Watan  (Prem Kahaani) (1975) Singer – Vinod Khanna, Lyrics – Prem Dhawan, MD – Salil Chaudhry

Lyrics

ae mere pyaare watan
ae mere bichhde chaman
tujh pe dil qurbaan

tu hi meri aarzoo
tu hi meri aabroo
tu hi meri jaan

maa ka dil banke kabhi seene se lag jaata hai tu
aur kabhi nanhi si beti ban ke yaad aata hai tu
jitna yaad aata hai tu
utana tadpaata hai tu
jitna yaad aata hai tu
utana tadpaata hai tu
tujh pe dil qurbaan

Hullo Atuldom

6th October 1933 was the date of birth of Brijmohan Kishanlal Sadanah who was born in Gujranwala Punjab, undivided India. He was a producer/ director of entertainers like “Yeh raat phir na aayegi”, “Ustadon ke ustad”, “Victoria No. 203”, “Chori mera kaam”, “Ek se badkar ek”, “Professor Pyarelal” etc. Before turning producer with “Ustadon ke ustad” in 1963 he was a director of films like “Tu nahi aur sahi”, “Nai rahen”, “Bhule bhatke” etc. He was the brother of Chander Sadanah who was associate producer of ‘Victoria No.203’, ‘Do Bhai’ etc. i.e. the brothers worked as a team.

Brij (as he was called in the industry) was married to actress Sayeeda Khan who had acted in ‘Kanyadaan’ alongside Shashi Kapoor & Asha Parekh. Kamal Sadanah who made his debut in films with ‘Bekhudi’ in 1992 with Kajol is the son of Brij & Sayeeda. Even Chander Sadanah’s daughters Nagma & Jyotika are actresses; seen mostly South Indian films. All this I have written to show that this is a family of entertainers which had only one black spot in its history; which is public knowledge & I don’t intend mentioning it here. Today Brij would have been 90 but for the unfortunate incident in October of 1990.

Today’s song is from the 1980 released Shatrughan Sinha- Zeenat Aman- Vinod Khanna starrer “Bombay 405 Miles”. Iftikhar, Deven Verma, Helen, Raza Murad, Shammi, Murad and Amjad Khan & Pran were the other important characters in the film. The music of the film was by Kalyanji Anandji & lyrics were by Indeevar. Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor, & Hemlata were the singers used. The story of the film was very simple:
“Ranveer Singh’s (Iftikhar) family is killed by his adopted brother Veer Singh (Amjad Khan) when Ranveer Singh is away on a business tour. He comes back witha a doll for his daughter that can record voices. (The doll is an important part of the climax) Mistakenly, Veer Singh’s men kill Sonu daughter of Masterji (Pran) thinking she is Munni daughter of Ranveer Singh.

Kishen (Shatrughan Sinha) a con man from Calcutta and Kanhaiya (Vinod Khanna) a con men from Delhi are ordered by the court to stay away (tadipaar) from respective city limits for five years. Kishen and Kanhaiya meet at a bus stand along with a con woman Radha (Radha) they decide to travel to Bombay. On the way the duo come across Mohanlal (guest appearance of Chaman Puri) elder brother of Masterji and loyal driver of Ranveer Singh. He dies while saving Munni from Veer Singh’s man and tells them that Munni’s life is in danger as its a question of Crores of Rupees.

Kishen and Kanhaiya reach Bombay with Munni thinking they will get benefited from it as Munni belongs to a rich family. But before they could trace anyone Veer Singh finds their whereabouts and puts his men behind Kishen and Kanhaiya.

And then the roller-coaster of entertainment takes over. I have seen the film in a cinema hall when it had released as my dear father was a huge fan of such over-the-top entertainers which didn’t need logic to see them through. I am also a fan of this film & see it whenever it comes on any television channel. I appreciate the writer’s (K.A. Narayan) thinking when he named the main characters- Kishan, Kanhaiya & Radha. Another aspect of the film which I love is the interactions between Kishan & Kanhaiya but then these two actors have been seen together in a few films before this one & I am sure there must have been a comfort level between the two.

With this post we also remember the tall, handsome, dimple- chinned Vinod Khanna. He had made his debut in films with “Man ka Meet” in 1969 & he was not the main lead there. His next few films saw him play characters that were either Shammi Kapoor’s brother or Rajesh Khanna’s nemesis (villain in ‘Aan Milo Sajna’ & inspector in ‘Sachaa Jhootha’) etc. After about 12 such films he was seen in a different type of film ‘Mere Apne” in 1971. Similar, differently made film was “Achanak” (1973) where he was cast as an army man who is accused of killing his beloved wife. There were films like ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, ‘Anokhi ada’ etc between ‘Mere Apne’ & ‘Achanak’ which saw him play negative vicious characters & making a name for himself.

His second phase in films began after he returned from sanyaas & we saw him in films like ‘Insaaf’, ‘Batwaara’ , ‘Chandni’; as a father in ‘Kshatriya’, ‘Parampara’ & he was there in two installments of Salman khan’s “Dabangg”. Reading my post, people will wonder if I forgot his teaming up with Amitabh Bachchan in the movies of the late 1970s- no I haven’t. I stop in my tracks when I see one of those movies even today. Similarly his ‘Inkaar’, ‘Kudrat’, ‘Lahu ke do rang’ & a few more are on my list of most-loved films.

Missing you Vinod Khanna the original Jabbar Singh.

Song-Qasam na lo koi humse (Bombay 405 miles)(1980) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

Qasam na lo koi hamse
qasam na hum koi khaayenge

haan qasam na lo koyi hamse
qasam na hum koyi khaayenge
jab tak saath nibhega
tab tak saath nibhaayenge
lekin jis din saath nahin nibha toh
gar saath nahin jo nibhega
dil se dil jab na milega
jaise dost juda hote hain
hum waise juda ho jaayenge
qasam na lo koyi hamse
qasam na hum koyi khaayenge

na ho jinko khud pe bharosa
wahi qasmein liya karte hain
wahi qasmein liyaa karte hain
sachche hon jinke iraade
wahi waade kiya karte hain
sachcha ho agar yaaraana
toh phir kya yaqeen dilaana
ho jinko pyaar nibhaana
bin boley woh pyaar nibhaayenge ae
qasam na lo koyi hamse
qasam na hum koyi khaayenge

kabhi juda hone ki naubat hi kyon kar aaye
naubat hi kyon kar aaye
ek dooje ke saanche mein
insaan agar dhhal jaaye
chehre pe na hon jo naqaaben
do dilon hon jo khuli kitaabein
manzoor agar ho haqeeqat
hamein khwaab na behka paayenge ae

qasam na lo koyi hamse
qasam na hum koyi khaayenge
qasam na lo koyi hamse
qasam na hum koyi khaayenge
la la la laaa laaa laalaa
la la la laa lalaalaa

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Remembrance Day- Laxmichhaya)
——————————————-———————————————

Today 09th May’2023 is the ‘remembrance anniversary’ of yesteryears actress and dancer Laxmichhaya.

She was born on 07th January’1948 and she passed away on 09th May’2004.

She had acted in many movies, mainly in role of dancer or club dancer I guess. Though I am not going to list all her movies here, I would like to mention the movie ‘Mera Gaaon Mera Desh-1971’ in which I likde her role the most and it has been my favorite movie too.

Today as a tribute to her I am presenting a song from the movie ‘‘Ek Khilaadi Baawan Pattey-1972’.

‘Ek Khilaadi Baawan Pattey-1972’ was directed by Ravi Khanna for ‘Art India Movies, Bombay’. It was produced by Ashok Roy, one time associate of J. Omprakash ji, and this was his first film as a Producer.

Its cast includes Dev Kumar, Naqi Jahaan, Laxmi Chhaya, Jr. Mehmood, Mohan Choti, Sajjan, Dulari, Padma, C.S. Dubey, Brahm Bharadwaj, Satyen Kappu, Ravi Khanna, Master Manoj, Master Ravi, Baby Padmini, Sadhana Khote, Lata Arora, Virender, Nishan Singh, Sushila, Premji, Raj Narayan, June Maxworth and others.

Tarun Bose makes a friendly appearance in the film while Vinod Khanna had a ‘special role’ in the film.

‘Ek Khilaadi Baawan Pattey-1972’ has five songs penned by Hasrat Jaipuri and composed by Sonik- Omi (assisted by Raj Kumar and Uttam Singh). Asha Bhonsle has given her voice to four songs and one song is sung by Omi.

One song from this movie – the title song – has already been posted on the blog on 19.08.2015.

Today we listen to the second song from this movie which is picturised on Laxmichhaya. Asha Bhonsle is the singer and this song is a club dance song.

We can also see Dev Kumar, Vinod Khanna and many other artistes in the picturisation of this song. From the picturisation of the song we can guess that Laxmichhaya is singing this song to alert Dev Kumar to escape from the trap of Vinod Khanna who seems to be after his life.

Lyrics for the song are by Hasrat Jaipuri and music is composed by Sonik-Omi.

Let us enjoy this song now. ..

I first met him on screen in 1971. The film was ‘Mere Apne’, a story of a destitute old lady fallen on to hard times, intersecting with gang wars between young street smarts. I had heard his name before. In 1968, when Sunil Dutt launched his younger brother Som Dutt via his home production ‘Man Ka Meet’, one also read in the news that another new face was being introduced – name Vinod Khanna.

Remembering Vinod Khanna on his birth anniversary today. He would have been celebrating his 76th year on this planet. He passed away five years ago, on 27th April, after losing a battle with the dreaded cancer.

As the decade of 1960s came to a close, the latter half introduced a few handsome young men to the the Hindi screen, that would go on to make big name for themselves over next few decades – Rishi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan – and yes, Vinod Khanna.

I was verily impressed by his screen presence in ‘Mere Apne’. An attractive physique, a stoic and solemn demeanor that is not easily ruffled, a determined and earnest quietness, an un-agitated dialogue delivery that conveys a commanding confidence. His screen presence felt good and comfortable.

As the decade would progress, there would be more impressive performances that added to his stature as an accomplished actor in Hindi cinema. Starting with the villain’s role in ‘Man Ka Meet’, he went on to doing side roles or shared leads in films like ‘Purab Aur Paschim’, ‘Mastaana’, ‘Aan Milo Sajna’ and ‘Sachcha Jhootha’ (all 1970) and ‘Reshma Aur Shera’ (1971), he moved into the lead role with the film ‘Hum, Tum Aur Who’ (1971) opposite Bharati. That year also witnessed two more of his great perfromances – ‘Mere Apne’ by Gulzar and ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’ by Raj Khosla. In the former he share the lead with Shatrughan Sinha, and in the latter with an established Dharmendra. And he stood his ground well in both these outings.

In 1972, we see him as the best friend of the hero in Gulzar’s ‘Parichay’. All this while, his presence in films is growing rapidly. In 1973 he plays the role of an army officer inadvertently caught in an illicit love triangle in ‘Achanak’, a film by Gulzar and KA Abbas. This role earned him a lot of critical acclaim.

In 1974, another very impressive performance in ‘Imtihan’ and also in ‘Haath Ki Safai’. For the latter performance, he got the Filmfare’s Best Supporting Actor award for the year. From 1976 I remember his roles in ‘Shaque’ and ‘Hera Pheri’. Moving on to bigger and better in 1977, we see him in ‘Parvarish’, the outstanding cops and robbers story ‘Inkaar’ and the blockbuster hit ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’.

1978 turned out to be yet another big year for him with films like ‘Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki’ and ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’. 1979 saw him play the role of Rana ji in Gulzar’s ‘Meera’. And in 1980 he made it big with films like ‘Qurbani’ and ‘The Burning Train’. From 1981 I remember him in ‘Kudrat’, a film by Chetan Anand.

Although Vinod Khanna went on to a brilliant career, the above listed films are the ones that are in my mind as mine, my selection – I have watched them on the big screen.

In 1982, Vinod took a break in his career, to be with Acharya Rajneesh, his spiritual Guru. That break ended in 1986, as he returned to India, after Acharya Rajneesh was made to leave the US by the authorities. Coming back, Vinod rejoined the industry and continued with his career. We see him active in the industry all the way up to 2015. Later, the medical issues overtook his life and he passed away in 2017. His last role was in a film released posthumously in 2020 – ‘Guns Of Banaras’.

The song I present today is from the 1974 film ‘The Cheat’ aka ‘Farebi’. The film is from Jaimini Dewan Productions. (Readers will recall that Jaimini Dewan was the elder brother of actor Karan Dewan). It is directed by Sudesh Issar. The cast of the film is listed as Vinod Khanna, Maushumi Chatterjee, Nirupa Rai, Anwar Hussain, Fariyal, Ranjeet, Randhir, Uma Dutt, Jankidas, Dubey, Naidu, Nishan Singh, Haroon Khan, Madhu Chauhan, Shah Agha, Soni, Ratan Gaurang, Jawahar Chopra, Sunil Sharma, Sat Prakash, and Bindu.

The film has six songs, all have been penned by Verma Malik. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyaarelal. The singing voice is that of Kishore Kumar. With this song, the film ‘The Cheat’ makes its debut on our blog.

The lyrics of this song have been provided by dear Prakash ji.

5144 Post No. : 17106

Today 18th August 2022 is the eighty-eighth birthday of Poet, Lyricst, Writer, Director, etc. Shri Sampooran Singh Kalra whom we know by his pen name ‘Gulzar’ (born on 18.08.1934).

Gulzar Saab has come a long way in the film industry starting from ‘Shriman Satyawadi’ (1960) and ‘Kabuliwaala’ (1961) to the recently released (on OTT) ‘Darlings-2022’ (where he wrote lyrics for a song).

Much has been written about him and most of us are well aware of his ‘cinematic excellence’ and his unique ‘poetry’ where he uses the ‘similes’ in his unique ways in his poetry and lyrics in Hindi Film Music.

There have been numerous posts on the blog about Gulzar Saab and there will be many coming in future. So, today, I am not going into the details of his movies and lyrics list which I like most or which have left an indelible mark on my mind. But I would like to mention here that while Gulzar Saab have done so much in all areas of writing, cinema, and poetry I have yet to read many of his works other than movies. However, in the case of movies I can say that I have watched many of the movies directed by him. And l loved them all.

One more thing which I am very fond of Gulzar Saab is his writings for children or his lyrics for the movies for children and the non-filmi albums of his for children (like ‘Karadi Tales etc). I would also like to mention his commentary in two audio albums one for film music i.e., ‘Fursat Ke Raat Din’ and one for Bhupen Hazarika’s song ‘Main Aur Mera Saaya’ which I like very much. Finally, I would like to mention his song for tele serial ‘Mirza Ghalib’ which is also one of my most favorite albums.

There are many things which one can write about him and his works in cinema and other than ‘cinema’. However, today we leave this for another day and straightway come to today’s song to celebrate Gulzar Saab’s birthday on the blog. (This song is lying with us since almost a decade now 😊).

This song is from the 1990 movie ‘Lekin’.

‘Lekin’ was directed by Gulzar for Dinanath Kala Mandir. Hridaynath Mangeshkar and Bal Phoole were the producers of this movie. It was presented by Lata Mangeshkar. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 29.08.1990.

It had Vinod Khanna, Dimple Kapadia, Amjad Khan, Alok Nath, Moon Moon Sen, Vijayendra Ghatge, Beena, Manohar Singh, Ram Mohan, Ajit Vachhani, Sunil Advani, Shabir Abbas, Masood Akhtar, Yash Sharma, GP Singh, Bashir Khan, Mohafiz Haider, S Madan, Harmeet Singh, Umesh Vyas, Mansi Upadhyay, Sapna Awasthy, Rashmi, Ahmed Siddiqui, and Baby Shabana Khan. Hema Malini made a guest appearance in this movie.

The story of this movie was written by Gulzar, who also wrote the screenplay, dialogues, and lyrics for this movie. Editing of this movie was done by Sadanand Shetty, Ravi, and Aadinath Mangeshkar.

This movie has eight soundtracks as mentioned on the blurb of the audio cassette of this movie. Music is composed by Hridaynath Mangeshkar. I like all songs of this movie very much and this is one of my most favorite albums. Today’s song is sung by Suresh Wadkar and on screen it is lip-synced by Vinod Khanna.

This movie is an interesting movie to watch, so nothing more about the movie here 😊

Let us listen to today’s song and enjoy Gulzar Saab’s poetry …

We wish Gulzar Saab a very happy birthday today and a happy, healthy and peaceful life ahead …

Over to the song now …

Song-Surmayee shaam is tarah aaye (Lekin)(1990) Singer-Suresh Wadkar, Lyrics-Gulzar, MD-Hridaynath Mangeshkar

Lyrics

surmayee shaam is tarah aaye ae ae ae
surmayee shaam is tarah aaye
saans lete hain jis tarah saaye ae
surmayee shaam is tarah aaye
saans lete hain jis tarah saaye ae
surmayee shaam

koi aahat nahin badan ki kahin
phir bhi lagta hai tu yahin hai kahin
koi aahat nahin badan ki kahin
phir bhi lagta hai tu yahin hai kahin
waqt jaata sunaayee deta hai
tera saaya dikhayee deta hai ae
jaise khushboo nazar se chhoo jaaye
jaise khushboo nazar se chhoo jaaye
saans lete hain jis tarah saaye
surmayee shaam

din ka jo bhi pahar guzarta hai
koi ehsaan sa utarta hai
din ka jo bhi pahar guzarta hai
koi ehsaan sa utarta hai
waqt ke paaon dekhta hoon main
roz yeh chhaaon dekhta hoon main
aaaye jaise koi khayaal aaye
aaye jaise koi khayaal aaye
saans lete hain jis tarah saaye ae
surmayee shaam is tarah aaye
saans lete hain jis tarah saaye
surmayee shaam

Blog Day :

5137 Post No. : 17094

Today (11 August 2022) is Rakshabandhan. This is the 15th Rakshabandhan for this blog. The first Rakshabandhan for the blog fell on 16 August 2008. That day saw the iconic Rakshabandhan song namely Bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana (Chhoti Bahan)(1959) getting covered on the blog.

On those early days, only one song was discussed in a day. Subsequently multiple songs began to be covered daily. Festival days were no exception. So more than one Rakshabandhan songs were also discussed in the subsequent occasions.

Till now as many as 24 Rakshabandhan songs have been covered on the blog. Most of these songs (if not all) are sung in the female voice and lip synced by a female character playing the Rakhi tying sister.

The Rakshabandhan song under discussion today is different in quite a few respects. It is sung by a male singer. It is a “sales pitch” song where Rakhi is being sold. The song is sung by Amit Kumar (though HFGK is silent about the name of the singer). It is picturised on Vinod Khanna disguised as an old Rakhi seller. So this song is a “disguise” song as well. Rakesh Roshan and Pradeep Kumar are also seen in the picturisation.

This song is from ‘Hatyaara’ (1977). The movie was produced by Sunil Sharma and JR Shah and directed by Surendra Mohan for Sunil Arts, Bombay. The movie had Vinod Khanna, Moushumi Chatterjee, Rakesh Roshan, Priyadarshini, Nirupa Roy, Pran, Dev Kumar, Man Mohan, Kanahiyalal, Raj Mehra, Chand Usmani, Abhi Bhattacharya, Sunder, Gulshan Bawra, Sahu Modak, Johny Whisky, Sabeena, Shyam, Shefali, Rajkumar, Premji, Bihari, Moolchand, Hamid, Raj Malhotra, Rajkishore, Nazir Kashmiri, Omi, Harun Khan, CL Shah, Jugnu, Kedarnath Sehgal, Chandrima Bhaduri, Baby Prerna, Master Bittu, Master Raju, Master Rajesh Valecha etc. The movie also had guest appearances by Pradeep Kumar, Laxmi Chhaaya and Mehmood.

The movie had five songs in it. One song has been covered so far.

Here is this second song from ‘Hatyaara’ (1977). The movie had three lyricists in it but the lyricist of this song is no known. This song only appears in the movie. Its records were not made. Music direction was by Kalyanji Anandji.

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the missing details of the song (viz lyricist).

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Blog Day :

4939 Post No. : 16790

There are some events in the blog that need human intervention. These are events viz century of posts, artists etc. Then there are events that happen without any conscious efforts on our part.

One such event took place just now today (25 January 2022). The blog just clocked 15 million visitors at around 16:15 IST on 25 January 2022. I was aware of this event approaching. I was not the only one. Some other keeneyed regulars had also noticed it. One of them (Mahesh Mamadapur) had guessed that the 15th million visitor would get clocked to coincide with 26 january, the republic day of India. But the visitors were in a hurry. They clocked this figure one day in advance! 🙂

Here is a summary of all the million visitors that have taken place in the blog so far :-

Visitor number Date achieved Blog day number Days taken for the million hits Remarks
1 million 25 October 2010 829 829 Slowest one million @ 1206 visitors per day
2 millions 7 November 2011 1207 378 @2645 visitors per day
3 millions 7 April 2012 1359 152 Fastest one million @ 6579 visitors per day
4 millions 10 December 2012 1606 247 @ 4049 visitors per day
5 millions 29 October 2013 1929 323 @3096 visitors per day
6 millions 12 October 2014 2277 348 @2873 visitors per day
7 millions 4 July 2015 2542 265 @ 3773 visitors per day
8 millions 20 April 2016 2833 291 @ 3436 visitors per day
9 millions 24 February 2017 3143 310 @ 3226 visitors per day
10 millions 14 January 2018 3467 324 @ 3086 visitors per day
11 millions 22 November 2018 3779 312 @ 3205 visitors per day
12 millions 4 July 2019 4003 224 @ 4464 visitors per day
13 millions 8 February 2020 4222 219 @ 4566 visitors per day
14 millions 29 November 2020 4517 295 @ 3390 visitors per day
15 millions 25 January 2022 4939 422 @ 2370 visitors per day

Overall rate of visitors till now is 3037 visitors per day from the beginning of the blog 14 years ago. A fairly decent rate of visitors for a blog dealing with a non populist topic, namely old HFM.

This calls for a celebration. We in this blog know only one way to celebrate, viz by discussing a song. 🙂

So, here is a song from “Hangaama”(1971). This movie was produced by Babulal Chainrai and Mohan Chainrai and directed by S M Abbas for Chainson Films, Bombay. The movie , a comedy movie, had Vinod Khanna, Zeenat Aman, Mehmood, Helen, Kishore Kumar, Fariyaal, Johnny walker, Aruna Irani, Yunus Parvez, Mukri, Dhumal, Jr.Mehmood, Kumud Tripathi, Janki Dass, Tuntun, Joginder, Ram Avtaar, Rajni Gupta, Master Bhagwan, Bhola, Jerry, Jagdish Kanwal, Gopal, Ranvir Raj, etc. in it.

“Hangaama”(1971) had five songs in it. One song has been covered so far. Here is the second song from the movie. This song is sung by Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle. Anjaan is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

Only the audio of the song is available. Those who have watched the movie state that the song was picturised on Vinod Khanna and Zeenat Aman. Vinod Khanna, then well known as a villain, was signed up reluctantly because the movie, full of comedians (Kishore Kumar, Mehmood, Johny Walker etc) needed someone who would pass for a hero and so would sing the customary romantic songs in the movie while the comedians would go about doing their clowning job. So Vinod Khanna inadvertently became a hero with this movie, that too opposite Zeenat Aman.

Song-Kachchi kali kachnaar ki (Hangaama)(1971) Singers-Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Anjaan, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

kachchi kali kachnaar ki
haay haay kachchi kali kachnaar ki

tere aage gori chanda bhare paani
yoon na jaal bichchha

kyun chhede baatein bekaar ki

arre kya samjhegi baatein pyaar ki ee ee

kya samjhegi baatein pyaar ki ee ee

kachchi kali kachnaar ki kach kach kach
kachchi kali kachnaar ki kach kach kach kach

khil ke teri umar
jis din phool bane
chaahe laakh tujhe
tu bas mujhko chune
sochoongi yeh kabhi
woh din aane toh de
bachpan jaane ko hai

Blog Day :

4926 Post No. : 16764

Today’s song is from the film ‘The Burning Train -1980’.

‘The Burning Train -1980’ was the 275th movie to be introduced on the blog on the 143rd day of the blog (on 8 december 2008) . Today the number of movies launched on the blog has reached 4562 on 12 January 2022. These numbers give us some idea of the long journey of the movie ‘The Burning Train” on the blog. 😊

The first song from this movie was posted on 08.12.2008. Today, 4784 days later(on 12.01.2022) we are posting the final song from this movie. So, “The Burning Train-1980” finally arrives at its destination YIPPEE station on the blog today. It becomes the 1304th movie to get YIPPEED in the blog.

“The Burning Train-1980” was one of the most ambitious movies from the Chopras’ (B.R. Chopra Films). It had a long list of star-artists performing in it.
I vaguely remember to have watched this movie with my parents when I was a child. Later, as I grew, I kept reading about this movie and kept listening to its songs as I liked them all. I think this movie should be ‘one of the most discussed or hyped but less successful commercially movie ’ of its time.

I loved to watch this movie whenever it was played on Cable TV or TV channels. It must have been liked by many like me and may be many in the new generations in eighties, nineties and more. This movie has good songs written by Sahir and composed by R.D. Burman. Especially its qawwali ‘pal do pal ka saath hamaara’ is liked even today.

‘The Burning Train -1980’ was directed by Ravi Chopra for B.R. Films, Bombay. It was produced by B.R. Chopra. Ravi Chopra also wrote the story of this movie.

It had Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Vinod Khanna, Parveen Babi, Neetu Singh, Danny, Vinod Mehra, Jeetendra, Navin Nischol, Simi, Asha Sachdev, Padmini Kapila, Romesh Sharma, Payal, Asrani, Ranjeet, Iftekhar, Om Shivpuri, Sujit Kumar, Nana Palsikar, Rajendra Nath, Mukri, Keshto Mukherji, Padma Khanna, Komila Virk, Nazir Hussain, Indrani Mukherji, Paintal, Dinesh Thakur, Yunus Parvez, Shammi, Ravindra Kapoor, T.P. Jain, Jankidas, Jagdish Raj, Gufi, Sudha Shivpuri, M. Rajan, Uma Dhawan, Mac Mohan, Anand Balraj, Prem Bedi, Master Bittoo, Baby Khushboo, Junior Danny, Master Romy, Master Salim and others.

Madan Puri, Chandrashekhar, Satyen Kappu and Urmila Bhatt make a guest appearance in this movie.
Its screenplay and dialogues were written by Kamleshwar ji. Pran Mehra was the chief editor for this movie and S.B. Mane and R.P. Bapat assisted him. This movie was passed by Censor Board 20.03.1980.

This movie had six songs penned by Sahir Ludhianvi and composed by R.D. Burman. Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Padmini Kolhapure and Sushma Shreshtha and Usha Mangeshkar gave their voices to the songs in this movie.

So far, five songs from this movie have been posted on the blog earlier. Here are the details of all the six songs of this movie.

Lyrics

la laa laa laa laa
la laa la la laa lala
la laa laa la la la laa laa
la la la laa la la la laa laa
la la la
la laa la la la laa laa

pehli nazar mein
hamne to apnaa
dil de diyaa thhaa tumko
par tumne der lagaayi
ruk ruk ke baat badhhaayi

waise to hamne
dil se hi tumse
apnaa liyaa thhaa tumko
par jaan ke baat chhupaayi
naa kah ke qadar badhhaayi

dekha tumhen to hamne ae
sabse nazar uthhaa li ee ee
khone ki cheez kho di
paane ki cheez paa li ee ee
ho seedhe na sahi ee
ghoom ke sahi
mil to gaye hain ae ae
la laa laa laa laa
laa laa laa laa laa
pehli nazar mein
hamne to apnaa
dil de diyaa thhaa tumko
par tumne der lagaayi
ruk ruk ke baat badhhaayi
laa laa laa aa

hamne tumhaari khaatir
kya kya kiye bahaane ae
ho o o o o
aasaan nahin mohabbat
ab to ye baat maane ae
thhoda nahin kam
jaise bhi hon ham
mil to gaye hain
pehli nazar mein
hamne to apnaa
dil de diyaa thhaa tumko
par tumne der lagaayi
ruk ruk ke baat badhhaayi

likkhaa thhaa aasmaan par
yoon hi ye khel honaa aa
pehle nazar ulajhnaa aa
phir dil ka mel honaa aa
ho o o
chhodo ye giley ae ae
jaise bhi miley
mil to gaye hain ae ae
pehli nazar mein
hamne to apnaa
dil de diyaa thhaa tumko
laa laa laa laa laa
par tumne der lagaayi
ruk ruk ke baat badhhaayi
la laa la la laa
la laa la la laa
la laa laa la la la laa laa
la la la laa la la la laa laa
la la la laa la la la laa laa
