O mere Raja khafa na hona
Posted on: November 15, 2008
After watching every song of “Johny Mera Naam”, I have described that song as the best song in the movie, only to say the same thing about the next song from the movie. I have already posted a few songs from this movie ( two to be precise) and just about every song is so wonderful to listen to and watch. A fresh as lily Hema and a dashing Dev Saab made quite an impression in this movie, especially in the songs.
From the picturisation of this song, it is seen that Policemen are keeping a close eye on the duo, suspecting that some contraband was to change hands. And pray who is the police inspector ? The same old Jagdeesh Raj, who was as ubiquitous as a police inspector as the Ambassador cars in Bollywood movies. He in fact went on to establish a Guinness book of world record for figuring as a police inspector in the highest number of movies.
Dev Saab and Hema ji play along as if they know each other, and the police wallahs watch discreetly. The last para of the song sees the two of them getting way through the ropeway, with both of them seated on the same ropeway chair, with Hema ji seated on the laps of Dev Saab, much against her better judgement. Kudos to Dev saab, he gamely hangs on ,bearing the load of Hema ji without asking for a duplicate to perform this arduous task.
Just joking. I am a fan of Dev Saab, let me assure you.

Song- O mere Raja (Johny mera Naam) (1970) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD- Kalyanji Anandji
Lyrics
o o mere raajaa
o o mere raajaa, khafaa na honaa
der se aayi, door se aayi
majboori thi phir bhi maine
waadaa to nibhaayaa, waadaa to nibhaayaa
o meri raani, samajh gayaa main
wahi puraanaa, teraa bahaanaa
der se aanaa aur ye kahnaa
waadaa to nibhaayaa, waadaa to nibhaayaa
intzaar ke ek ek pal kaa badlaa loongaa
aisaa bhi kyaa
ye na samajhnaa aaj bhi aise jaane doongaa
aisaa bhi kyaa
kitnaa sataayaa pahle uskaa hisaab do
ankhiyon mein ankhiyaan daalke jawaab do
bachte bachaate
Ho o
bachate bachaate … chhupte chhupaate
tum kyaa jaano kaise aayi,
waadaa to nibhaayaa, o o mere raajaa
samajh gayaa main, wahi puraanaa, teraa bahaanaa
der se aana aur ye kahnaa waadaa to nibhaayaa…
o o mere raajaa …
baahon ki in zanjeeron mein yoon naa jakdo
ham jakdenge
mud jaayegi meri kalaayi haath na pakdo
ham pakdenge
chhodo naa
nahin
chhodo naa
aise to naazuk nahin haath sarkaar ke
mauke bhi kabhi kabhi milte hain pyaar ke
pyaar abhi to
ho, o o
pyaar abhi to nayaa nayaa hai
meri wafaa kadar karo ki,
waadaa to nibhaayaa, o o mere raajaa …
khafaa na honaa
der se aayi, door se aayi
majboori thi phir bhi maine
wadaa to nibhaayaa,
o o meri raani …
kaho ye gaalon ke angaare kiske liye hain, kaho kaho
aji tumhaare
haa haa haa haa
honthon pe ye shahad ke dhaare kis ke liye hain, bolo bolo
ajii tumhaare
haan, sharm kahaan ki aao gale lag jaao ji
kab se khadaa hoon pyaasaa pyaas bujhaao ji
hat jaao ji
bujhaao ji
badnaami se
ho, o o
badnaami se dar lagataa hai
ye to socho kis mushkil se, waadaa to nibhaayaa
o o mere raajaa …
samajh gayaa main, wahi puraanaa, teraa bahaanaa
der se aana aur ye kahna waada to nibhaya wada to nibhaya …
o o mere raajaa
O meri raani…

Lovely, lively, timepass song.
Hema is so pretty in this song.
Everytime she says “oh mere raja”, I imagine she is calling out to me…then I realise that it is actually Lata’s voice..and all the excitement goes “thup”. 🙂
This was a very popular song in its time, I remember.
“Dev Saab and Hema ji play along as if they know each other, and the police wallahs watch discreetly”.
Watch discreetly ? ROFL.
