Aap yoonhi agar hamse milte rahe

Posted on: December 3, 2008

Going by the lyrics, I have classified this song as a love song, but it appears that the love is unilateral in this song despite this being a duet. The hero, Joy Mukherjee is sincere in expressing his love for the lady, but the lady, Sadhana is just playing along, without feeling the same sentiments.

The song is sung beutifully by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. S H Bihari’s lyrics are so nicely written and the music, especially what sounds like sitar is magical, at least to my ears.

The song is picturised in Kashmir which was a favourite shooting place of Bollywood movies of Shammi Kapoor and his clones. Joy Mukherjee ws indeed the most successful of Shammi Kapoor clones. The Shammi Kapoor sidekick Rajendranath is Joy’s Mukherjee’s sidekick in this movie, so one can guess that the story line of this movie must be similar to “Kashmir Ki Kali”.

I am not complaining since this movie has wonderful songs from exactly the same musical team that was there for “Kashmir Ki Kali” viz O P Nayyar as music director , S H Bihari as lyricist and Rafi and Asha Bhonsle as the singers.

May be I am a bit harsh in my judgement calling it as a copy of “Kashmir ki Kali” because this movie was released before “Kashmir ki Kali”. So perhaps “Kashmir Ki Kali” was copied from this movie. In fact, I recall that Vishwajeet’s “Mere Sanam” with a similar storyline was also released before “Kashmir ki Kali”.

Song- Aap yoonhi agar hamse milte rahe (Ek Musafir Ek Haseena) (1962) Singer- Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-S H Bihari, MD- O P Nayyar

Lyrics

aap yoon hi agar hamse milte rahe
dekhiye ek din pyaar ho jaayegaa
aap yoon hi agar hamse milte rahe
dekhiye ek din pyaar ho jaayegaa
aisi baaten na kar o haseen jaadugar
meraa dil teri aankhon mein kho jaayegaa
aap yoon hi agar hamse milte rahe
dekhiye ek din pyaar ho jaayegaa

aaaaa
aaaaa
o o o o o
o o o o o
aaa
ho ho ho ho
peechhe-peechhe mere aap aatin hain kyun
peechhe-peechhe mere aap aatin hain kyun
meri raahon mein aankhen bichhaati hain kyon
aap aati hain kyon …

kyaa kahoon aapse ye bhi ik raaz hai
ek din iskaa izhaar ho jaayegaa
aap yoon hi agar hamse milte rahe
dekhiye ek din pyaar ho jaayegaa

kaisi jaadugari kee arre jaadugar
kaisi jaadugari kee arre jaadugar
tere chehre se hatati nahin ye nazar
hai meri ye nazar …
aisi nazron se dekhaa agar aapne
sharm se rang gulnaar ho jaayegaa
aap yoon hi agar hamse milte rahe
dekhiye ek din pyaar ho jaayegaa

aaaa
aaaa
o o o o
o o o o
aaaa
o o o o
main mohabbat ki raahon se anjaan hoon
main mohabbat ki raahon se anjaan hoon
kyaa karoon kyaa karoon pareshaan hoon
main pareshaan hoon …
aapki ye pareshaaniyaan dekhkar
meraa dil bhi pareshaan ho jaayegaa
aap yoon hi agar hamse milte rahe
dekhiye ek din pyaar ho jaayegaa
aisi baaten na kar o haseen jaadugar
meraa dil teri aankhon mein kho jaayegaa

Poor Joy Mukherjee – I always thought he was way cuter than Shammi! They were competing for the same space though – the hip and Westernised modern young man. To classify Ek Musafir Ek Haseena as Kashmir Ki Kali-like is a bit far-fetched, surely? The songs are similar of course (all of OP Nayyar’s music sounds the same), but neither the plot nor its picturisation was similar in either of the movies.

Lovely song. I second your opinion on the sitar bit, does add that extra to the song. Oh how I wish I just lived in the old times forever :).

The lyricist for this song was Raja Mehdi Ali Khan. But yes, most songs were penned by S.H. Bihari.
