Jaanun jaanun re chhupke kaun aaya

Wow! It is a gem that has been forgotten by most people though it should not have been the case. It is an outstanding song in every count. Asha Bhonsle and Geeta Dutt, the two outstanding singers of that era, sing together in this song. Shailendra is the lyricist and S D Burman is the music director. And they are at their best in this song.
That is not all. The song is from a movie called “Jaag Utha Insaan” directed by Shakti Samanta and it is picturised on Madhubala and Minu Mumtaz. What more does one look for in a Bollywood song ? It is too bad that most people ( myself included) were blissfully ignorant of this song. But I must thank Raja, who not only knew about this song, but he also gave a farmaish for this song. I have discovered quite a few songs thanks to farmaishes like this. Discovering such outstanding songs, 50 years after they were created, is becoming a habit with me these days. And I am quite enjoying these discoveries.

Asha and Geeta Dutt at their best, love it when 2 good singers sing in tandem. Brilliant! Recently I liked one song sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal.. I forget the name of the song..

I looovved this movie and the song used to play on DoorDarshan quite often. The other songs from this film are equally good. My other favorites from this movie are the lighthearted romantic number Chand sa mukhda kyon sharmaya and the peppy Dekho re dekho logo. I had completely forgotten about this movie and its songs – thanks for reminding me of it!
