“Imtihaan” (1974) was a movie that is best remembered for the iconic song “ruk jaana nahin tu kahin haar ke”.
This movie had Vinod Khanna and Tanuja in the lead roles, and it was a different kind of a movie. As things stood then, movies with diffferent story lines often failed at the box office. This movie, which saw Vinod Khanna as a hero, rather than a villain, won some critical acclaim but not much success at the box office. And the VCD/DVD of this movie are so hard to come by, as of now. And I cannot understand it a bit, seeing how VCD/DVDs of far worse movies and much older movies are easily available.
Coming to this movie itself, this movie had some other nice songs as well. Here is a song sung by Lata that went “roz shaam aati thi magar aisi na thi “. It is a beautiful song to listen to. I listened to this song again after more than three decades and I liked it.

Roz shaam aati… has a lovely calming, soothing and yet with a slight thrill of its own. I like the way it is shot with the orangish pink filter, to show the sunset.

Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s orchestra conduction is superb. Use of French Horn, Irani Santoor are excellently synchronised with the high pitch sound of Lata Mangeshkar.
You will always find the variety of the songs when Lata sings for Laxmi-Pyare.
