Ye desh hai veer jawaanon ka
Posted on: January 26, 2009
India became independent in 1947 but the course that the new nation would take was determined on 26th January, 1950 when Indians gave themselves their constitution.
The task of nation building began in the right earnest after that. 1950s was the decade when nation building was the mantra. The nation lacked basic infrastructures in every field and the leaders decided that building them was of topmost priority before the nation.
The movie “Naya Daur” was inspired from those ideals. The hopes , aspirations ( as well as the idealogy) and nationalistic sentiments then prevailing among the Indian public is captured nicely in this song from “Naya Daur”. This is a joyous Punjabi style song where men and women sing and dance and talk about the heritage of the nation.
The song is sung by Rafi, and it is picturised on Dilip Kumar and Ajit. There are many others who figure in this joyous song and dance.
Song- Ye desh hai veer jawaano ka (Naya Daur ) (1957) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD- O P Nayyar
Lyrics
ho
Ye desh hai veer jawaano ka
albelon ka mastaano ka
is desh ka yaaron hoy
is desh ka yaaron kya kahna
ye desh hai duniya ka gahna
O
yahan chaudi chaati veeron ki
yahan bholi shaklen heeron ki
yahan gaate hain raanjhe hoy
yahan gaate hain raanjhe masti me
masti hai jhoome basti mein
ho
pedon pe baharen jhoolon ki
raaho me kataaren phoolon ki
yahan hasta hai saawan hoy
yahan hasta hai saawan baalon me
khilti hai kaliyan gaalon me
ho
kahil dangal surkh jawaano ke
kahin kartab teer kamaano ke
yahan nit nit mele hoy
yahan nit nit mele sajte hain
nit dhol aur taashe bajte hain
ho
dilbar ke liye dildaar hain ham
dushman ke liye talwar hain ham
maindaan me agar ham
maindaan me agar ham dat jaaye
mushkil hai ke peeche hat jaayen

There are two singers , Mohammed Rafi and Balbeer singing this song.
Rafi is singing for both Dilip Kumar and Ajit, it is true. But Balbeer is singing the last stanza together with Rafi.
A few corrections in the lyrics:
Second stanza :
yahan gaate hain raanjhe
hoy
yahan gaate hain raanjhe masti me
‘ machti hain dhoome ‘ basti mein
Fourth stanza :
kahil dangal ‘ shokh ‘ jawaano ke

Sir, there are 2 male voices, one is of Rafi sahab. Another? I read somewhere that it is S. Balbir. You should have given credit to him as well, if it is true.
