‘PANCHAM-RAFI’ Jodi’s Variety Songs – 8
———————————————————————
(Birthday greetings for – Danny Denzongpa – 25th February)
Today’s song is from the ‘1978’ movie ‘Naya Daur’. This movie had made its debut on the blog on 20.09.2012. However, no song was added to this movie after that one song. In less than eight months the movie will complete a ‘decade’ on the blog after making its debut while still remaining unYIPPEED. 😊
Today’s song is the second song of this movie ‘Naya Daur -1978’ on the blog. It is sung by Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle and Danny Dengzongpa. I think this must be the only song where Rafi, Asha Bhonsle and Danny came together. Since this was the only Rafi song in this movie it is being presented under this series.
‘Naya Daur -1978’ was directed by Mahesh, Bhatt for ‘United Movie Arts, Bombay’. It had Rishi Kapoor, Bhavna Bhatt, Danny Dengzongpa, Farida Jalal, Manda Puri, Paintal, Poornima Ranjeet, Om Prakash, Ghanshyam Roheda, Major Anand, Sharat Saxena, Haider Chaudhary, Vishwa Mehra, Kamal Rai, Leena Das and Oscar.
Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Saprru and Shivraj make a special appearance in this movie. Shashi Kiran and Pinchoo Kapoor make a guest appearance in this movie.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 06.01.1978.
This movie had four songs penned by Anand Bakshi. Music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman.
Here is the list of the songs appearing in this movie-
SNo | Song-Title | Singer/s | Posted On |
---|---|---|---|
01 | Chalo kahin aur chalte hain | Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle | 20.09.2012 |
02 | Mujhe doston tum galey se lagaa lo | Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Danny Dengzongpa* | |
03 | Paani ke badley pee kar sharaab | Kishore Kumar, Danny Dengzongpa | |
04 | O paise waalon bade insaanon | Kishore Kumar |
As mentioned above today’s song is sung by Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle and Danny Dengzongpa. On screen it is lip synced by Rishi Kapoor, Farida Jalal, and Danny Dengzongpa respectively.
(HFGK mentions only Rafi and Danny as singers for this song. Also, there is one audio available which does not contain Asha Bhonsle’s antaraa in the song. I am not aware if this was added later.)
I have not watched this movie (and it seems to be unavailable on internet as of now) so can’t say much about it. I would request knowledgeable readers who have watched this movie to throw more light on this movie and its songs.
Today 25th February’2022 is the seventy fourth birthday of Danny Denzongpa (born on 25th February’1948).
My very first post on the blog was on Danny Denzongpa in 2013 published on 26th February’2013. In this post I have briefly mentioned about his biography and filmography. So, I would not like to repeat all again here.
Let us wish Danny Denzongpa a ‘very happy birthday’. and a healthy and peaceful life ahead.
We will now listen to today’s song which is a nice song, and it grows on us if we listen to it a few times …

Song-Mujhe doston tum galey se lagaa lo (Naya Daur)(1978) Singers-Rafi, Danny Denzongpa, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman
Rafi + Danny Denzongpa
Lyrics
mujhe doston tum galey se lagaalo
mera aur koyi sahaaraa nahin een
mujhe doston tum galey se lagaalo
mera aur koyi sahaaraa nahin een
ho o hameen hain jo ek
doosre ke hain saathi
zamaane mein koyi hamaaraa nahin een
mujhe doston tum galey se lagaalo
mera aur koyi sahaaraa nahin
ho o hameen hain jo ek
doosre ke hain saathi
zamaane mein koyi hamaaraa nahin een
ho o
sharaafat se dekha bahot kaam leke
jiyoonga main ab sar pe ilzaam leke ae
sharaafat se dekha bahot kaam leke
jiyoonga main ab sar pe ilzaam leke
gayaa har jagah dil ka paighaam leke
pukaaraa main har ek ka naam leke
mera naam koyi pukaaraa nahin
mera aur koyi sahaaraa nahin
ho o hameen hain jo ek
doosre ke hain saathi
zamaane mein koyi hamaaraa nahin een
kahaan jaa rahe thhe
kahaan aa gaye ho
ke tum chhod kar gulsitaan aa gaye ho o
kahaan jaa rahe thhe
kahaan aa gaye ho
ke tum chhod kar gulsitaan aa gaye ho o
jahaan pe hain kaante
wahaan aa gaye ho
pareshaan ho ke yahaan aa gaye ho o
yahaan bhi tumhaaraa guzaaraa nahin
mera aur koyi sahaaraa nahin
ho o hameen hain jo ek
doosre ke hain saathi
zamaane mein koyi hamaaraa nahin een
chalo tod dein zindagi ke bharam ko o
chalo tod dein zindagi ke bharam ko
khushi se lagaa lein galey apne gham ko
bhulaa daalen duniyaa ki jhhothhi sharam ko
na samjhaa na jaanaa is zamaane ne ham ko
bigaadaa hai lekin
sanwaaraa nahin
mera aur koyi sahaaraa nahin
hameen hain jo ek
doosre ke hain saathi
zamaane mein koyi hamaaraa nahin
mujhe doston tum galey se lagaalo
mera aur koyi sahaaraa nahin

Here is one more song of the popular unofficial genre viz “how come this song was not posted earlier” 🙂 . During my younger days I was only into listening current songs and any song created before 1968 was old song for me. then one fine day in mid 1970s I decided to become mature, viz. become interested in old songs. It was then that I learnt about O P Nayyar. The fact that he made his career without using the voice of Lata voice impressed me a lot. Then I heard O P Nayyar compositions from movies like “CID”(1956), “Naya Daur”(1957) etc.

“Naya Daur” (1957) was a pathbreaking movie of its time. Like most pathbreaking movies, it had a storyline that was different and therefore a risky proposition at the box office.

This song is one that I thought I had already discussed in the blog. The first time I became aware of O P Nayyar was in mid 1970s, when I read about him in a Hindi magazine (Dharmyug, perhaps, where it was mentioned that he made a successful career for himself without using Lata Mangewshkar’s voice even once). This got by curiosity roused. I found out that “Naya Daur” (1957) was a breakthrough movie for him as well as for many others associated with the movie. Ao I became aware of all the songs of this movie. One can see the lyrics of several songs from this movie noted down in a a diary where I used to note down the lyrics of songs that I liked those days. One can say that my diary showed which songs I liked in 1970s. And I liked the songs of “Naya Daur” (1957).

on:In Bollywood movies, singing songs is traditionally the preserve of lead actors. Lesser actors rarely got to sing. But there were exceptions.
