Chhup gaya koyi re door se pukar ke

Posted on: January 29, 2009

I bet few people have heard about this movie called “Champakali” (1957). This movie had a hero on decline (Bharat Bhooshan) paired up with a very young Suchitra Sen, who would later become a legendary actress in Bangla movies.

The movie had music by Hemant Kumar and lyrics by Rajinder Krishan. This movie had a song that has become a Lata classic.

“Chhup gaya koyi re door sepukaar ke” is a song that has the stamp of Hemant Kumar music written all over it. It is sung by Lata, but for some reason I thought that this song was sung by Hemant Kumar too. I think I am confusing this song with some other song.

In any case, here is this beautiful Lata song from “Champakali” which was picturised on Suchitra Sen.

Song- Chhup gaya koi re door se pukaar ke (Champakali) (1957) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Hemant Kumar

Lyrics

Chhup gaya koyi re door se pukaar ke
dard anokhe haay de gaya pyaar ke
Chhup gaya koyi re door se pukaar ke
dard anokhe haay de gaya pyaar ke

aaj hai sooni sooni dil ki ye galiyan
ban gayi kaante mere khushiyon ki kaliyan
aaj hai sooni sooni dil ki ye galiyan
ban gayi kaante mere khushiyon ki kaliyan
pyaar bhi khoya maine sab kuch haar ke
dard anokhe haay de gaya pyaar ke
Chhup gaya koi re door se pukaar ke
dard anokhe haay de gaya pyaar ke

ankhiyon se neend gayi manwaa se chain re
chhup chuup roye mere khoye khoye nain re
ankhiyon se neend gayi manwaa se chain re
chhup chuup roye mere khoye khoye nain re
haay yahi to mere dil ke singaar the
dard anokhe haay de gaya pyaar ke
Chhup gaya koyi re door se pukaar ke
dard anokhe haay de gaya pyaar ke
Chhup gaya koyi re door se pukaar ke
dard anokhe haay de gaya pyaar ke

One of my Mother’s Favorite song. Love it. Thanks for posting. One correction to be done. Haay yahi to mere dil ke singar the, it should be Haay yahi to mere Din (days) the singar ke (Those were the days for me to be happy).

Wha a soft lovely number! And, as you rightly pointed out, it has the Hemant Kumar ‘chappa’ on it! By the way, in 1957, Bharat Bhooshan was NOT on the decline. The slide and misfortune came later. Poor man! He was such a gentleman till the end.
