Jab liya haath mein haath

“Vachan” was a movie produced by Devendra Goel. This movie was also the debut movie of Ravi as a music director. Ravi, who was till then an assistant of Hemant Kumar made a mark as an independent music director with this movie and he never looked back since.
Here is a beautiful duet sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. It is a “tonga” song, in the sense that Balraj and Geeta Bali ride on a tonga, hand in hand, and they sing this duet.
Song-Jab liya haath me haath (Vachan) (1955) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Rafi, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Ravi
Lyrics
jab liya haath mein haath
nibhana saath mere sajna
dekho ji hamen chhod na jaana
jab liya haath me haath
nibhana saath mere sajna
dekho ji hamen chhod na jaana
saath kabhi na choote
chaahe dushman bane zamaana
dekhoji hamen chhod na jaana
dekhoji dil tod na jaana
phoolon ki baaraat saji hai
aur kaliyon ki doli
phoolon ki baaraat saji hai
aur kaliyon ki doli
jeewan bhar ke liye piya
main aaj tumhaari holi
aaj tumhaari holi
ghoonghat ki rakhoge laaj
vachan do aaj
mere sajna
dekhoji mukh mod na jaana
dekhoji dil tod na jaana
neele ambar waala dega
nishdin meri gawaahi
neele ambar waala dega
nishdin meri gawaahi
sada ye preet nibhaaunga main
sada hai preet nibhaayi
sada hai preet nibhaayi
duniya mein pyaar ka naam
na ho badnaam
mere sajna
dekho ji dil tod na jaana
saath kabhi na choothe
chaahe dushman bane zamaana
dekhoji hamen chhod na jaana
dekhoji dil tod na jaana
aaa aa
ho ho

I did some googling and found that one of my favorite songs “Chanda mama door ke …” is also from this movie. So I guess this is my farmaish, right here, awaiting its turn! Thanks Atul for patiently finding these songs and writing about them for our pleasure.

I think I have heard this song once upon a time, but had completely forgotten it all these days. It is a very nice song, but I don’t think I appreciated it in those days, because I used to consider all old songs boring!
By the way, who is this Balraj? I thought you were talking about Balraj Sahni, but this guy is different. Did he act in anything else?
