Bahaaron mera jeewan bhi sanwaaro

Posted on: February 7, 2009

I had heard this song as a child, but I never came to know what movie this song was from- till a few days ago.

Now I know that this Lata song was from a movie called “Aakhri Khat”(1967). And what a beautiful song it is. Written by Kaifi Azmi and composed by Khayyam, it is a song that tugs at the heart strings of the listeners be they young or old. And I loved this song when I first listened to it as a pre teen kid.

The song is picturised on an unbelivably young looking Rajesh Khanna and on Indrani Mukherjee.

there was recent batty discussion on youtube whether Lata could sing classical or not (apparently she has said that she wished she could have been a totally classical singer).

I think that is totally pointless debate (and may I say Lataji’s desire) as she has sung almost classical songs time and again in movies and no doubt had she wanted to be a female tansen, she would have become one.

The point is, would any classical singer (note that I am a great fan of Hindustani classical music) have been able to sing all that Lata sings?

This song is a case in point: how many things had to be done “just so” to get this hauntingly beautiful rendering…

Atul, I found the clip, and it is just 20 sec and very old, but you might like to watch it for its rarity value:

Atul–A farmaish. Could you please also put up the other songs from this film which are similarly wonderful particularly Rafi’s ‘Aur kuch der theher’?

Here’s some more discussion on “Aakhri Khat”. It really was a gem of a film.

A few correction in lyrics of this shining song ;

rachaao koyi kajra ‘ laao gajra ‘
lachakti daaliyon tum phool waaro

lagaao mere in haathon me mehandi
sajaao maang meri yaa ‘ sidhaaro ‘
