Aaj ki raat ye kaisi raat

Posted on: February 8, 2009

I had not even heard about this 1967 movie called “Aman”. Now I am aware of this movie, mainly because of a song from this movie.

This Rafi song “aaj ki rat ye kaisi raat” is a beautifully sung romantic song. The sensuousness of the voice can be experienced by the listener even if one has not watched the video.

The picturisation shows Rajendra kumar in the mood of making some pillow talk with Saira Bano. Sira bano who utters a few words in a shrill voice, thus gets credited as having “sung” this song with Rafi.

In this Rajendra Kumar complains of sleeplessness, and in the end of the song, he falls asleep. That way, this must be the first lori in Bollywood that is meant to put a grown up to sleep. And also this becomes a rare lori where the lori singer himself goes to sleep as he sings it. How very remarkable of Bollywood movie makers to think of such an original idea. 😉

Song-Aaj ki raat ye kaisi raat (Aman) (1967) Singers-Rafi, Saira Bano, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

aaj ki raat ye kaisi raat
ke hamko neend nahin aati
meri jaan aao baitho paas
ke hamko neend nahin aati
aaj ki raat ye kaisi raat
ke hamko neend nahin aati
meri jaan aao baito paas
ke hamko neend nahin aati
aajki raat

he, ye aaj tumhe ye kya ho gaya hai
off
tum apne dil ko samjhaao naa

machal utha ye dil nadaan
bada ziddi badi mushkil
machal utha ye dil nadaan
bada ziddi badi mushkil
khuda ko bhi manaa loon main
magar maane na rootha dil
tumhi dekho karo koi baat
ke hamko nend nahin aati
meri jaan aao baitho paas
ke hamko neend nahin aati
aaj ki raat

suno ,meri ek baat maanoge
maanoge na
tumhe andhere me neend nahin aati to
to, to
main roshni kiye deti hoon

andhera hai to rahne do
mojassim chandni ho tum
andhera hai to rahne do
mojassim chandni ho tum
lajaaye roshni tum se
ke aisi roshni ho tum

na seene se hataao haath
ke hamko neend nahin aati
meri jaan aao baitho paas
ke hamko neend nahin aati
aaj ki raat

hahaha
hmm
maroongi haan

mile ho dil chhidaa ho jab
koyi rangeen afsaana
mile ho dil chhida ho jab
koyi rangeen afsaana
sulaane maut bhi aaye
to main kah doonga phir aana
abhi to tum ho mere saath
ke hamko neend nahin aati
meri jaan aao baitho paas
ke hamko neend nahin aati
aaj ki raat ye kaisi raat
ke hamko neend nahin aati
meri jaan aao baitho paas
ke hamko neend nahin aati
hmmm hmm
hmm hmm

I remember this song very well. It is quite a well-known Rafi saab song.
I saw this movie as a young boy. I remember it being a very serious movie. About war. If I am not mistaken, Rajendra Kumar dies in the movie.

I did not like the movie very much. Looks like the public also did not like it very much – I think it was one of very few flops that Jubilee Kumar had at that point in his career. This song pretty much stood out.

PErhaps the only Indian movie that has an appearance by a Nobel prize winner: Bertrand Russell.

Really, I was not aware. Thanks for this trivia. What role does he play in the movie ? Or does he play himself ?

He plays himself. The hero of the film is very impressed with his ideology and decides that he wants to serve the people who were affected by the Hiroshima bombs. His father, is initially upset because he was hoping that his son would return to India to serve the poor. But he realizes that his son wants to serve humanity with no barriers whatsoever.
