Gir gaya jhumka girne do

In India, most couples have arranged marriages, but you could not realise that by watching Bollywood movies, where every hero and his sidekick seemed to fall in love and sing romantic songs. To the credit of Bollywood actors, a few on screen lovers of Bollywood movies actually tied the knots too. Examples being Amitabh-Jaya, Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh etc.
Of course, the biggest example of reel life lovers becoming real life couples has got to be Dharmendra-Hema Malini, and for that they had to bend many rules ( considering that Dharmendra was already a married man).
When Dharmendra-Hema look back to their younger days of romance, they need not look at old dusty albums. They may simply watch their movies of 1970s to relive their past.
And this song is just as good as any of their romantic songs.
This song from “Jugnu” (1973) was quite a dream song for lovers. Just note the lyrics and note the picturisation. The on screen chemistry is so clearly visible.
S D Burman was the music director and this song was sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata.

Lyrics
Gir gaya jhumka girne do
kho gayi mundri khone do
ud gayi chunri udne do
kaahe ka dar hai baali umar hai
chhodo bahaana naa naa
Gir gaya jhumka girne do
kho gayi mundri khone do
ud gayi chunri udne do
aaja naa naa
aaja aajaa aajaa nana nana
aajaa nanana
poochenge sab mujhe aayi kahan se tu haseena
rang bhare hothon ka rang bhala kisne cheena
kahna chaman ke phoolon ne mera roop chura ke rakh liya
uyi kya hua
chub gaya kaanta chubhne do
khul gaya gajra khulne do
mit gaya kajra mitne do
kaahe ka dar hai baali umar hai
are chhodo bahaana unhoon
sharbati aankhon se do ghoont peene do mujhko
reshmi zulfon ke saaye me jeene do mujhko
main maan jaati lekin dhadakte dil ne manaa kar diya
haay haay kya hua
ho gayi mushkil hone do
khil gayi kaliyaan khilne do
aa gaye bhanwre aane do
kaahe ka dar hai baali umar hai
arre chhodo bahaana naa naa
aahista aahistaa chhedo dilon ki kahaani
kyaa karoon maane naa meri jawaani deewani
aise deewane tum nahin the ye tumko kya ho gaya
gaya kya hua
chal gayaa jaadoo chalne do
are sudh budh khoyi khone do
aa gaya koi aane do
kaahe ka dar hai baali umar hai
chhodo bahaana na na

Nice intro, Atul. 🙂
Indeed the chemistry is very obvious.
Lovely to watch this video after so many years and to listen to this song.
