Aa laut ke aaja mere meet

“Rani Roopmati” was a C grade movie, and songs from such movies typically failed to catch the ears of the mainstream listeners. But there were some exceptions.
This song was also one of those rare exceptions.
Sung by Mukesh, this song was composed by S N Tripathi, and it was picturised on Bharat Bhooshan.
And pray who played Rani Roopmati. It is none other tha Nirupa Roy, who would later be playing the ever suffering mother of Amitabh Bachchan in Bollywood movies. I was so happy to note that Nirupa Roy too was young sometime in the past. Though going by this song, she was into suffering heartbreaks during those days too.
PS-I came to know, thanks to information provided by Pradeep Raghunathan, that this song also has a female version, which is sung by Lata. But most people are familiar only with the Mukesh version, of course.

Song-aa laut ke aaja mere meet (Rani Roopmati ) (1959) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Bharat Vyas, MD-S N Tripathi
Lyrics
Laut ke aa
laut ke aa
laut ke aa
aa laut ke aaja mere meet
aa laut ke aaja mere meet
tujhe mere geet bulaate hain
aa laut ke aaja mere meet
tujhe mere geet bulaate hain
mera soona pada re sangeet
mera soona pada re sangeet
tujhe mere geet bulaate hain
aa laut ke aaja mere meet
barse gagan mere barse nayan
dekho tarse hain man ab to aaja
barse gagan mere barse nayan
dekho tarse hain man ab to aaja
sheetal pawan ye lagaaye agan
o sajan ab to mukhda dikha jaa
toone bhali re nibhaayi preet
toone bhali re nibhaayi preet
tujhe mere geet bulaate hain
aa laut ke aaja mere meet
ek pal hai hansna ek pal hai rona
kaisa hai jeewan ka khela
ek pal hai hansna ek pal hai rona
kaisa hai jeewan ka khela
ek pal hai milna ek pal bichadna
duniya hai do din ka mela
ye ghadi na jaaye beet
ye ghadi na jaaye beet
tujhe mere geet bulaate hain
aa laut ke aaja mere meet
tujhe mere geet bulaate hain
mera soona pada re sangeet
mera soona pada re sangeet
tujhe mere geet bulaate hain
aa laut ke aaja mere meet

Nirupa Roy was very beautiful and graceful looking lady. I remember quirte a few classic song picturized on her including the above song and other songs of this film. The immortal song “Zara Saamne to aao chhaliye ” also features Nirupa Roy.
