Aaj kyun hamse parda hai

I have posted a wonderfully hard hitting song from “Sadhana” (1958 ) that was sung by Lata and picturised on Vyjyanti Mala.
I am pleasantly surprised to note that the extremely popular qawwaali “aaj kyun hamse parda hai” is also from this movie.
This is an amazing qawwaali. It is one of the earliest qawwaalis that went on to become immortal.
It is sung by Rafi, Balbir and chorus. Sahir was quite in his elements in this movie, going by the lyrics that he wrote in the Lata song mentioned earlier and this qawwaali. N Dutta, who is by now forgotten created some awesome songs those days which are still remembered today, even if his name in not.
The song is picturised on various clients of the kotha where Vyjyanti Mala entertains them by singing mujra. Apparently she refuses to turn up before them and that prompts her clients coming up with this qawwaali.
What a qawwaali ! One cannot get bored on this qawwaali ever. Yesterday I may have listened to it a dozen times.Most people may have only listened to the audio and enjoyed it. It was nice to realise that the picturisation of this song s also quite good.
It is easily one of the most memorable qawwaalis created in Bollywood movies.

Very good qawwali.
I liked this movie a lot.
It may seem today to be a somewhat cliched subject but in that time it was a bold subject to take up. B R Chopra always tried to pick up social issues. This movie is no different.
This movie also has that song with one of the greatest lyrics – “Aurat ne janam diya mardon ko”. Sahir saab, of course.
