“Sweekar Kiya maine” (1983) is a movie that few people remember today. it was a small budget movie with Vinod Mehra and Shabana Azmi in lead roles. This was a good off beat movie, I am sure which the mainstream audience the kinds which the mainstream audience tended to avoid watching.
This movie had some nice songs as I recall from those days of audio cassette players. I had an audio cassette of “Sweekar kiya maine” and it had a few good songs.
The song that became the most popular was this Lata song “Ajnabi kaun ho tum.”
Nida Fazli wrote the lyrics and Usha Khanna was the music director of this movie.
It was nice to listen to this song again after some 25 years or so.

I love Usha Khanna’s music! I feel she is terribly underrated as a music director. Her Hum tumse juda hoke, Teri galiyon mein na rakhenge kadam, Tu is tarah se meri zindagi me are all my favourites. Ajnabi kaun ho tum is another one of her gems.
I remember watching Sweekar Kiya Maine on TV as a child. From what I remember it wasn’t really a good movie.

Yes, Usha Khanna unfortunately remained a music director on the fringes, though the quality of her output was second to none.
