Logon ka dil agar jeetna tumko hai to

Have you come across pedantic sort of people, who, instead of listening to what you have to say, try to point out your grammatical mistakes ?
Dev Saab in this case goes one step ahead. Tina Munim is selling “Datun” in a Mumbai local train in a shrill voice and Dev Saab preaches her to speak in a gentle and pleasant tone. Speaking pleasantly makes for effective communication skill and that makes one a successful salesperson, Dev Saab advises Tina Munim in the form of this song. Obviously Dev Saab was reading too many “how to be successful in life” books while commuting in Mumbai locals. No one told him that the authors of these successful books themselves became successful only when people bought their books else they themselves were failures in their lives.
Dev Anand is preaching Tina Munim on the art of effective communication skills, and it turns out that he himself lacks the ability to make use of primitive communication skills like trying to find out which local train goes in which direction. Yes, he has boarded a train going towards Virar when he was supposed to go to Churchgate in the opposite direction. So much for his own communications skills. 😉
Well, before I forget to mention it, this song, which is a rail song, is from “manpasand” (1980). Amit Khanna wrote the song. Though the music resembles O P Nayyar’s music of 1950s, it was composed by Rajesh Roshan.

Song-Logon ka dil agar jeetna tumko hai to (Manpasand) (1980) Singer-Rafi, Teena Munim, Lyrics-Amit Khanna, MD-Rajesh Roshan
Lyrics
logon ka dil agar haan jeetna tum ko hai to
bas meetha meetha bolo
logon ka dil agar haan jeetna tum ko hai to
bas meetha meetha bolo
kaali daatun… dus-dus paise le lo
chale hai jaise kahin sheeshe pe aari
kaano ko laage hai aawaaz tumhaari
chale hai jaise kahin sheeshe pe aari
kaano ko laage hai aawaaz tumhaari
kehna hai kuch agar to bolo mein mishri gholo
bas meetha meetha bolo
aye babu, le le na babu
sar chhupaa hai jab seena-e-dil mein
jeet tumhaari hai to phir mushkil mein
sar chhupaa hai jab seena-e-dil mein
jeet tumhaari hai to phir mushkil mein
sab se tumhe agar haan aage badhna hai to
bas meetha meetha bolo
la ra la la la
la ra la la la
la ra la la la
la ra la la la
sau mein se ek hai baat pate ki
din ho sureela to raat maze ki
chup khadoos
sau mein se ek hai baat pate ki
din ho sureela to raat maze ki
apna yeh maal agar haan bechanaa tum ko hai to
bas meetha meetha bolo
daatun kaali daatun
logon ka dil agar haan jeetna tum ko hai to
bas meetha meetha bolo
kaali daatun… dus-dus paise le lo

I remember this song well because it was on one of the cassettes I had of that period.
I have still not seen this movie though. I think it did about average.
I used to get confused between Manpasand and Lootmaar.
Both Dev Anand movies of around the same time.

hullo atul
gr8 collection u ve here on this site.
there was one other song in this movie which went “rehene ko ek ghar hoga, khane ko halwa hoga” which was supposedly sund by tina munim herself. and another song that will be an absolute no- no for today’s feminists— “man maani se harghiz na daron kabhi shaadi na karo” which is dev anand’s advice to girish karnad.:)
oh btw i am peevesie’s mom.

Hi Atul…a very delayed response (since I just happened to see this blog)… The song you mentioned is actually sung by Meena T. (I presume she is the lesser known sibling of Jayshree T.)
