Baba man ki aankhen khol

“Dhoop Chaaon” (1935) was a milestone movie for Bollywood. It was the first movie where playback singing was used, though it was not the same as playback singing as it is known today. It then only meant that the actor could concentrate on acting during picturisation and he would get the song recorded earlier or later. The actor himself/ herself needed to sing of course.
This song sung ( and acted) by K C Dey, a blind singer and uncle of Manna Dey is a very fine song to listen to. Considering the lack of sophistication in recording technology at that time, the voice quality as well as the calibre of recording personnel must be of a very high order to get this quality.
I am simply bowled over by the singing of K C Dey in this song.
Incidentally, K C Dey had sung another fantastic song in this movie which I will post soon too.
Song-baba man ki aankhen khol (Dhoop Chhaaon) (1935) Singer-K C Dey, Lyrics-Pt Sudarshan, MD-R C Boral
Lyrics
baba man ki aankhen khol
baba man ki aankhen khol
baba man ki aankhen khol
baba man ki aankhen khol
baba man ki aankhen khol
duniya kyaa hai ek tamaasha
chaar dinon ki jhoothi aasha
duniya kyaa hai ek tamaasha
chaar dinon ki jhoothi aasha
pal me tola pal me maasha
pal me tola pal me maasha
gyaan tarazu leke hath mea
tol sake to tol
gyaan tarazu leke hath mea
tol sake to tol
baba man ki ankhen khol
gala kitna pyaara hai
itna acha gaana kabhi suna hai
kaisi dard bhari aawaaz hai
matlab ki sab duniyadaari
matlab ki sab duniyadaari
matlab ke sab hain sansaari
matlab ki sab duniyadaari
matlab ke sab hain sansaari
jag me tera wo hitkaari
jag me tera wo hitkaari
tanman ka sab zor lagaakar
naam hari ka bol
tanman ka sab zor lagaakar
naam hari ka bol
baba man ki aankhen khol
baba man ki aankhen khol

What a naturally powerful voice, he did not require any musical instruments or corrections to bring out this effect. Such were the gems we had in our glorious past. He was Guru to Mr Manna Deyji.

Here is my effort.
Baba means a singing saint is cautioning the listeners
who is telling that the world is not stable and it is full of people who are not reliable. Therefore he is guiding that one should listen to the innervoice , the God sitting inside the heart of every one of us. This life is very prescious should be utilised with care and in the service of God.
