Tera mera saath rahe

There were a few music directors who did well for themselves without using the leading playback singers of the day in their songs.
O P Nayyar had a great career without using Lata’s voice for even one song. Even S D Burman had stopped using Lata’s voice for much of 1950s before he patched up with her in early 1960s.
Interestingly enough, I have realised that Ravindra Jain is also one music director who may have used Lata’s voice very few times in his career. He got her to sing in his debut movie “Saudagar” and in one of his last movies “Ram Teri Ganga Maili”, but otherwise, he has not used her voice in majority of his songs.
But the very first song where Raavindra Jain used Lata’s voice, Lata came up with an outstanding song.
This song is “tera mera saath rahe” from “Saudaagar”. It was picturised on Nutan. Ravindra Jain was the lyricist as well as the music director. Almost all of his songs from this movie won praise from music lovers, and deservingly so. It is indeed a very sweet song to listen to.

Lyrics
hmm hmm hmm
teraa meraa saath rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
dhoop ho, chhaayaa ho, din ho ke raat rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
ho teraa meraa saath rahe
dard ki shaam ho yaa, sukh kaa saweraa ho
sab gawaaraa hai mujhe
saath bas teraa ho
saath bas teraa ho
saath bas teraa ho
jeete jee mar ke bhi, haath mein haath rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
koi waadaa naa kare, kabhi khaaye na qasam,
jab kahen bas ye kahen,
mil ke bichhdenge na ham
mil ke bichhdenge na ham
mil ke bichhdenge na ham
pyaar ki preet ki yoon hi barsaat rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
ho teraa meraa saath rahe
ho o ho o
ho o ho o
beech ham dono ke, koi deewaar na ho
tu kabhi mere Khudaa
mujhse bezaar na ho
beech ham dono ke, koi deewaar na ho
tu kabhi mere Khudaa
mujhse bezaar na ho
mujhse bezaar na ho
mujhse bezaar na ho
sab ke hothon pe apni hi baat rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
dhoop ho chaaya ho
din ho ke raat rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
ho teraa meraa saath rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe
teraa meraa saath rahe

This was a beautiful song in a beautiful movie, but I don’t think either one was appreciated when the movie was released, as is often the case.
Thanks for the song, Atul.
