Jaadu bhare nainon mein

Many of the songs that I post in this blog may be chronologically old, but they are new for me since I have been discovering them only just now. And I find them such refreshing songs to listen to, and watch to. It is as if one magically gets teleported to that era and gets an experience of living in that era for a few minutes. And it is a wonderful experience.
Here is a song from “Baabul”(1950). Needless to say that I had never heard this song before. When I stumbled upon this song yesterday, I not only listened to it, but also watched the picturisation.
Just as small a kid is asked to sing before guests and the kids sings, accompanied by a dance, here Nargis is singing a song when asked to do so by Dilip Kumar, and her dance is accompanied by a dance. It is a cute sort of dance, and the expressions of Nargis throughout the song are quite adorable. And after the song is over, she comes towards Dilip Kumar, blushing, wondering how her performance would be judged by Dilip Kumar. Priceless !
The song is written by Shakeel Badayuni and music was composed by Naushad. Shamshad Begum was the singer.

Lyrics
jaadu bhare nainon mein
jaadu bhare
jaadu bhare nainon mein dole jiyaa, teri qasam
dil hai teraa deewaanaa
dil hai teraa
dil hai teraa deewaanaa bole piyaa, teri qasam
main saawan
main saawan aur tu ghataa
teri-meri preet hai
teri-meri preet hai
jo dhun papeehaa gaaye
jo dhun papeehaa gaaye
wo hi meraa geet hai
wo hi meraa geet hai
maine tujhe dil de ke
maine tujhe
maine tujhe dil de ke jeet liyaa, teri qasam
haathon mein haath rahe
haathon mein haath
haathon mein haath rahe
haathon mein haath rahe
ho
haath nahin chhodnaa
haath nahin chhodnaa
o
dekho ji yaad rahe
dekho ji yaad rahe
dekho ji yaad rahe
o
waadaa nahin todnaa
waadaa nahin todnaa
koyi nahin is dil mein
koyi nahin
koyi nahin is dil mein tere siwaa, teri qasam

I rented this movie a few years back and fell in love, all over again, with all the songs in this movie, some of which I had heard before and some new ones, but all lovely. Of course, the young Nargis and the slim Dilip Kumar were a bonus! The innocence in her face is so cute, I just loved it.
Kisi ke dil me rehna tha … was also a great song, and so was Panchhi ban mein …! In fact, they were all great! I am waiting to see which song is picked next by you!
